D3 2.7 voltage help please |
|
Hello...
I have a Disco D3 2.7 2006
The problem is I fitted a panel mount voltage meter to see exactly what the battery has and what the voltage is when running via alternator and I’m getting a very high reading constantly of between 15.3v to 15.6v when running and 11.8v when Just ignition on.
If I test directly at the battery with everything off (computers probably not asleep though) it’s 12.6v and 14.6v when running.
I have just installed a brand new Yuasa Black 029 95amp battery just incase it was that but it has made no difference at all.
What I don’t understand is why it’s so different at the battery or inside.
Inside voltage meter has been connected to the original cigarette lighter terminals.
My concern now is my lights flicker when engine revel and again when braking and worse still the sat screen randomly now turns off & on.

Just had loads issues with my D4.
I don't know if the D3 has a Battery Monitoring System or not, but, it seems that was the cause of all my problems. The BMS needs to be reset after a battery change. Current : Discovery 4 HSE (2012 spec)
Current : BMW Z4 20i MSport
Current : BWM Z4 3.0SI Sport Auto
Previous : Freelander 2 HSE

What are you checking the voltage at the battery with?
Is it the same tester as you have fitted to the cigarette lighter, or is it a different meter?
If it's a different one then check at the cigarette lighter what voltage you get with that meter.
Test both meters side by side to see if there is a difference between them.

Ive got one of them cheap plug in voltage gauges and my car tends to show 12.1 volts with ign on and everything off, and its running pretty much 15.2 volts all the time, but I mainly do short runs in it (5 miles), once on any sort of longer run the volts will drop to mid 14s and a really long trip will see mid to high 13s.
Well worth trickle charging the new battery overnight as they tend never to be at full strength.
Search hard reset, have you got any codes? have you got any water under the passenger side carpet?
