I decided NOT to chop up my own D3 grille
The D3 grille I ordered was unpainted in original black plastic
The D4 grille is in two parts the outer frame and the inner silver honeycomb, I ordered the inner bit only.

If anyone needs these parts contact Slimer. I'm sure he will do a good deal.

still some fine tuning to do... a little more cutting, when happy the glueing filling etc.
Then Primer/Jarva black.... I'm thinking loose the silver on the d4 honeycomb and go for satin black (but i'll wait for the time being)
all held together with masking tape at the moment

Very well done Dave
Doesn't it give it so much more satisfaction then just buying one?

Hi Dave
Did you consider using filler to blend the remaining bottom bar into the vertical part of the D3 grill (currently there is a vertical notch betwen them and they meet at right angles) so that there is a curve as per a D4 grill. Then paint the modified part of the D3 grill body colour and leave the modified D4 centre grill in chrome.
Hi all, on my second D3 but first post here..Great site!
As I can't PM yet and want to purchase the parts for this conversion but not at LR prices of £176 for the D4 grill and £70 for the D3 grill, does Slimer supply the parts and how do I purchase them?
Thanks in advance...A
