Opted for some leather-look rubber pulls from B&Q for ÂŁ6 each. It's coming together now, just need the varnish on the tops to dry and then I'll hope to get it installed later this afternoon (pending weather!).

I'v put on the worktop, installed the whole thing into the car. Utterly chuffed with it so far. Now I just need to fill it with stuff, I can see a trip to GoOutdoors coming up next weekend

A little bit of progress this weekend, I have starting preparing for the rear load area. I've removed the plastic mouldings and used them as a template, creating a firmer upright to attach the load bed to.

Another couple of hours of progress today.
Screwed in place the frame for the rear storage cubbies. I'll be putting an 18mm PLY top on it, with cargo rails, to use as a load bed for clothes bags, wolf boxes etc. They'll be space to slide out a drawer from the rear when the boot is open, for my tools. The front cubby will have sliding doors to give access to the cabin - likely I'll keep my laptop and cameras in there with a lock on the sliding doors.

Ur so welcome ref the link and indeed eye watering prices , can see why so many campers etc come with a high price tag
Hope u don’t mind me asking but will u fit some fire proofing super-lux sheeting to protect the wood / varnish from any heat plse , or maybe next to a battery to prevent any risk of heat transfer
Out of curiosity if u install LPG bottles inside the landy will u have to fit any vents / alarms etc plse
Apologises if your already going to do that , just find it very interesting , can see it’s really coming along and indeed can really be proud of the progress you’ve made so far

For cooking I'm going to be using an all-in-one hob with gas cannister, rather than a separate tank. I'll just store it in the lid of the kitchen unit. It shouldn't need any heat protection on the wood top, but I suppose I could use a Teflon mat or similar if it turns out the wood heats up.

Regarding batteries I'm going with a simple all-in-one unit again, for ease of taking it into the house when not needed. Something like this which will be plenty powerful enough for a couple of nights of LED lighting and charging my phone and laptop. I'll be rigging up a simple 5v LED circuit that'll provide strip lighting on the ceiling. It'll be powered by normal USB type A plug. The power pack should fit neatly on the floor Under the kitchen unit.

That mobile battery bank looks a great idea and indeed then won’t have to mess around with any of the cars wiring so to speak
Not a bad price considering many lithium stand alone batteries are around the same price , ideal as u say hooking up a led light and doing so not effecting ur starter battery
Great idea with regards to a fire mat for the camping stove

Easter update...
I've had a productive day, managing to cut out a top for the storage area. The underside will perfectly fit an off-the-shelf Really Useful BOX (for tools I expect) and the top piece is hardwood 18mm ply on which I'll mount cargo rails to use as a load bed.
The bed area is where my upper body will be, it's also made of 18mm ply so amply strong enough for my 88kg. It's built to height to meet exactly the level of the folded-down middle row seat (plus 18mm). Next up will be a piece of braced ply to rest on top of that seat, giving me a perfectly flat bed base. I have 100mm dense foam to cut for the mattress.
It's been designed so that the bed base lifts out easily, so that I retain use of the rearmost seat.
I'm almost at the point of the first road test, I have a 92km cycle race on 14th in the New Forest, so I'm hoping to have this ready to camp out the night beforehand. Fingers crossed for a few spare hours over the coming few weekends.
