Ok Ive not had the D3 for long, its just turned 100k miles but cant believe how comfortable the seating is. Ive owned a good few other 4x4s and suffer with back problems but to date not one issue, the drivers seat is in great condition, obviously far from new but still offers great support and comfort 8)

Couldn't agree more.....I have a dodgy back and spent 2 hours in the passenger seat of a Citroen recently.Thought it was lovely and comfy...then found I could hardly stand upright for 4 days...the Disco is one of the few cars I can spend a long time in and not suffer for it afterwards "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Got to love those Volvo seats!!! Best thing that came out of FoMoCo ownership!
On the down side however, the windows electrics are as bad as a Ford can be (it takes ages to go up and down, and auto function only on drivers side)

The only real bugbear I have with my S (cloth) is the lack of lumbar support in the seat back. Am I alone? Are my S seats different to yours? VIN: A175A328***

Seats in my old D3 were much better than those in my D4.
I now get back aches [even on medium drives] in the D4, never had that in the D3.
SWMBO also finds the same in the passenger seat!
I've had it checked and the seat base cushion is softer [and not as supportive for me] in the D4.
In fact, that's going to be my next mod on the D4 -- to get some D3 seat base cushions fitted. I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

ron we have a landmark at work and after driving up on a long Mtwy journey last week i thought i was gonna have to book myself in for a hip replacement,
The whole hip, buttock lower back were killing me, i put it down to different seating position, i drove the Wife's Golf the other day and that did the same thing, ached like mad yet my own D3 cloth boggo seats oh they are heated though, are a real pleasure to be seated in.

Lumbar support is excellent in my Disco. There is little lateral support, but the armrest kind of solves the problem.. You just use your elbow to make up for the lack of support

My brother told me he thinks the seats in the D3 are crap because of the lack of lateral support. I told him I had no problems with it. Got in the first time after that, paid a little attention and found out I *automagically* use my elbow... don't even have to think about it.

yep, had a short ride in an audi q5. could hardly walk afterwards (s5-L1 prolapse 4 years ago). d3 no probs - nice warm back too.
using electromuscle stimulation via an abs trainer fixed the back - better than a shiatsu massage. i reccommend the abtronic X2 http://www.amazon.com/Abtronic-Abdominal-S...B003FZ5ABQ
crap for slimming but strengthens the lower back and abdominals for spinal support and relieves pain quickly whilst you eat breakfast read books etc..

Initially, I hated the Landmark seats in the D4. Exactly the same problems as ronp above. Nowhere near as comfortable as the old D3 HSE's. However, they've got better? I can't tell if it's just me getting used to them or if they've just started to give a bit with wear and weight. Longest days drive I've done recently was Hampshire to Berlin. I was dreading it, but even with just one stop, I got out feeling fresh and relaxed both ways. After some heavy mileage things have actually improved?
(Still hate that silly stitching down the middle though).

The front seats are fantastically comfortable. Done lots of European jaunts in it and got 5,000 miles for two trips planned this year in it and really looking forward to it already! Find the middle row of seats a bit uncomfortable as they seem to be a lot lower to the car floor and my thighs don't get that much support, but as I'm always in the front it doesn't matter
cheers Alex
