D3 -> D4
After 14 years of joyful D3 ownership we are thinking of upgrading to a 2016 D4. After driving the new Discovery SWMBO and I can’t bring ourselves to want anything more than an updated version of what we already have. For the many of you who have found yourselves in the same boat - are there any significant differences D3 -> D4 I should be prepared for?16 D4 Landmark

Strangely I found that the D4 felt a bit bigger than the D3. I know it’s the same car, but I found it difficult to place it on the road as well as I could with my D3. I preferred the D3 S comfort over the D4 HSE, it was like a well worn pair of trainers cf a pair of stiff brogues. Do I miss the D3? Absolutely, too many adventures. The D4? Not really, no emotional attachment.

The daft twisty auto gear selected takes a bit of getting used to.
But other than that D4 is just a refined D3 in nearly every way.
Enjoy😁formerly Disco3Ben

Since you’re in the US, if you need lower gear make sure the LR4 really has them. It came as part of the HD pack (at least). The default starting MY13 is without. It’s easy to see this as the terrain programs panel, in front of the gear selector, will have a blank space if they’re missing.
I did like my D4, I do like my D3.

I have both 09 HSE D3 and 13 HSE D4 but actually prefer the storage layout around the driver on the D3 to the D4 as well as the D3 gear change and the passenger side on the D4 looses its cupholder under the vent by the window, everyone in the family complains about where they put their cup on the D4
D3 adaptive Xenon lights are by far better than the D4 Xenons
The door trims and all interior fittings on the D4 are so much quieter and the improved engine do make up for everything else thoughMust stop buying shiny toys....

i switched from progressive King Springs spung D3 manual base model with a few mods to air ride 8 speed auto with terrain response gizmos
I agree with some D4 seems smaller on the inside but i recon it is due to manual seats being lower than electric ones IMHO
apart from that awesome
rear seats folding totally flat is so much better we had in base model D3
8 speed auto very cool to drive and air ride is so much better on my spine
If you looking got for D4 with 8 speed auto box and i guess big 5 litre V8 in US?

Petrols from MY13 forward are SCV6 with the 8 speed transmission, MY12 was the last year for V8 and 6 speed.

Thanks for the replies. The D4 we are pursuing doesn’t have the HD package, whereas my D3 does have it. Having a v8 now I was surprised at how quick the V6 in the 2016 D4 felt.16 D4 Landmark
