I don't really need the 7 seats, though I do utilise the load space in the D3.
I don't do much off roading nowadays

Sounds to me that you need a decent diesel van and hang onto the D3

Some vans are able to get 60mpg +

Yeah but then I'll have no need for a D3 as most of my use is business.
Plus I need to have a decent exec vehicle for visiting customers and comfort on the long hauls.

4x4 prices always drop in the summer as everyone forgets the winter snow and bad weather and on top of that the UK is looking down the barrel of a double dip recession and add on to that the fuel price which was stupidly high anyway and only going to go higher with oil country unrest.

My crystal ball prediction, based on what this did to D3 prices last time, is big drops in prices.

So, if you're going to sell and if you think I might be correct, get out sooner rather than later. On the other hand, you might not think the same as me and that's fair enough!

(I'm biding my time to buy one in the Summer based on my crystal ball as I missed the boat last time)

I've just done exactly that, 2010 VW Caddy DSG that's doing over 50mpg. Filling up twice a week in the D4 at £1.35 per litre starts to lose it's appeal after a while.

My limited experience (two days) of a courtesy car FL2 (e) the economy is a little over egged. I drove it with care to see what I could get out of it and overall I did around 100 miles of mixed driving and it returned 31mpg. That includes hills but I wasn't 'booting' it. Maybe thats enough of a difference from the D3. It also drives like a car rather than like a land rover if you know what I mean.

The other odd thing was a large lever with a button on the end where the EPB should be - very odd Rolling with laughter

I averge 22mpg in my FL2 Laughing

Lots of short trips, 10k per year, longer trips towing so never gets up higher when working out the fill up to fill up average

Though on a motorway run, if I reset the trip I get 26-28mpg at BMW speeds, 31 at 70

When I do short trips to the shops ow walk the hounds I see 14mpg on the display so probably getting 12 in reality. Mind you with a goosed turbo I reason that's put it down 20% Big Cry

I thought about doing exactly the same, had a fl2 loaner for a weekend fuel economy was 26mpg, the d3 does 24mpg both taken from read out, so no reason to change, and when you drive the d3 you feel special, the fl2 just didnt feel the same.

Plus the fl2 just cant quite do all the stuff the d3 can, we use the 7 seats, tow, space etc just nowt else about any cheaper.

the question is heart or head,

good luck either way.

We looked at FL2s before the D3 as a towcar for caravanning.

FL2 boot far too small. For anything.
