My D3 is a chopper!!!
Is it normal for my D3 to sound like a helicopter when my rear windows are down at 40 mph+
Don't know if i should be annoyed or put it down as a quirky characteristic of the D3 I love!

Be reassured by the fact that this occurs because your cabin is so airtight 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

You can completely eliminate it by opening a front window, or the sunroof, just a fraction.

Is this his first car then I think Sniper has found out that the noise is much worse on the D3 than many other motors because of the reason posted above 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I had exactly the same problem on a 3 series BMW and a Mercedes E class, it could be his first car with rear electric windows.
Come to think of it the family Galaxy does it as well - I am sure the D3 is well sealed but I bet most cars do the same thing15 3.0 RRS HSE - Silver

Thanks everyone.. Correct, this is my first car with rear electric windows. My previous car was a G reg defender!! didn't have electric windows nor was particularly air tight Opening the front window a bit has done the trick! Cheers Duncster..
