I'd like:

an interface to enable points of interest to be entered into the navigation system and to be warned when I'm near them. I.e. speed cameras. Fed up using separate device.

a speed limiter, had one on previous car. Set it and you could speed up and slow down but not exceed the set limit. Great for keeping to speed limits without constantly looking at the speedometer. Could over ride the limit by pushing the accelerator to the floor.

Isn't the exising overspeed warning system sufficient?

Dr Lex,

I don't think so. As I understand it the overspeed device lets you know by making a noise, the speed limiter prevents you from exceeding the set speed. In practice this means you can maintain, say 30, by accelerating up to 30 and just holding the throttle open slightly more than would be required for that speed.

Cruise control holds a set speed.

A speed limiter allows you vary your speed, using the accelerator, up to, but not exceeding, the set speed.

It limits the top speed of the car. It dos not maintain any particular speed.

On my current Merc, you set either cruise control OR speed limiter. I don't use Cruise control too much, but always have the speed limiter set on. With a decent speed limiter, you set whatever speed you want to be the max and it will only go above that if you use the kick down. It's saved me from some flashing blue lights and Tony's street side money making machines on more than one occassion!. The bong for the Disco speed monitor thing I think would just get annoying. you set it at (keeping within the law of course) say 70 mph and each time you go slightly over, you get the bong. I've only had the demo for the weekend (waiting for min in Jan I hope). Not sure how frustrating the bong will be but we'll find out!

Meh, well I guess unless you've had that sort of system previously, it's hard to see the benefit over cruise control and overspeed warning. None of those systems will assist you if you're not aware of the limit.

Previous car was a Merc and the speed limiter really is a licence saver.

same as the three blink touch indicators, came from Merc first, so why dont LR do this as part of the next upgrade. It'll give me a reason to change my MY07 by that time.......
