In the first article there, he states that:
"But if you look at the problem objectively, in many cases the problem with the motor is the fault of the owners. And it is connected with the inadequate attention to this motor. If you follow the motor, then its failure can be reduced to a minimum. And not much is needed for this."
What does he mean then? I cant see anywhere in the article that tells owners how to avoid?

It means it’s my fault my engine goes died , I obviously didn’t look after it and it died because of lack of care. I wonder if he can explain what maintenance would prevent bearing rotation short of fitting a new engine every so often? Mine wanted not nothing, even oil changes every 8k miles later on. But obviously still my fault.

Exactly.
It’s easy to blame the owner, peeps tend to defend their buying choice in the hope it won’t happy to them. I always have a mild chuckle when peeps praise D3/4 reliability and mentally add the word “yet” to the end of their paragraph.

AIUI, Autocraft only sell to the manufacturer, not the trade or the public.
They do all the recon 2.7 for JLR...
Why can’t anyone just buy one, surely there should be some sort of law against that. It would be very interesting to know the cost of the engines.
If LR are not passing these into customers at cost, then someone should take them to court.
While I don't know what the cost price to the dealer is, they done me a deal on an engine i bought for the wifes Sport...
Autocraft make a profit on it
JLR make a profit on it
Dealer makes a profit on it
I expect if it were possible to buy direct, it would be a fair whack cheaper...My D3 Build Thread

Its a joke.
LR make an engine with a design flaw in it. They recognise in their own literature its got a design problem with it.
They build it anyway and don't sort the issue.
Then when it breaks, they use the situation to make more money out of the person who has their product with the design flaw in it.
You couldn't make it up!!

think with the crank issue it’s out of our control, can only service the engine as per manufacturers specification and then leave it to the gods
Like ur goodself I ensure I keep the disco well maintained
Some years I only do 3-4,000 miles, yet will still replace engine oil and filter
Assume JLR after learning of the crank issues have done extensive research in there technical workshops suppose though once they admit there’s a flaw they will be liable in replacing failed engines, ????
don’t know if they use the TDV6 engines in any new models , ie D5 ??
Thks

As far as I can see it’s the same engine in the D5 but with one turbo. They are too busy with oil dilution issues (and extra oil changes at their cost) to worry about crank failure.
For now!

I believe they are going back to twin turbo in the D5, so exactly the same engine, althought they are going to squeeze some extra power out of it. 305hp I think which is the same as the RRS.

The crank is really going to like those extra horsies trying to squeeze out through that twiglet.
