|
Hi, just bought an 55 plate D3 and want to use a roof rack/bars, nothing in the manual on where/how to fit. Can find the Thule bars on the web but not sure where they fit. have seen some posts re dealer fit roof rails?
do i just pull back the laid in rbber strip on the roof and find a anchor point or do i need the rails.

The "laid in Rubber strip" is actually backed with metal.
I also needed roof bars for carrying surfboards, but had to buy full length roof rails to fit bars to.
Take care when removing the "strip". You will need to use this after fitting the rails, whether they are the short or long ones. I fitted the long ones, which involved cutting the strip and enlarging the front hole above the driver's head and then re-fitting.
The are four points under the strip that the rails screw into. I don't think you will find a roof rack/rails that will secure straight into these points.

You will need to fit the rails. Fairly easy once you have the rubber strips off. The instructions you get with the rails are easy to understand. Takes about an hour to fit.
You will then need a set of cross bars to fit the rails. Lots of options but I have the Thule bars which work fine. The roofbox company have a good selection but many other suppliers on the net.
