Well, if it helps, I have found a 35mm lift kit that's very inexpensive Smile

King Springworks in Austraila makes the following:
-----------------------------
Part No's KRFR-13 (front) & KRRR-14 (rear) to raise your model vehicle approximately 30-35mm from factory std height and are a 25-30% increase in spring rate.

These coils are designed to maintain the STD length shock absorbers. The CV joint angles are not greatly affected.

They are a direct replacement coil, ie there are no fitting instructions required.

Costs are as follows:

Front Coils AUD $ 175.00 per pair
Rear Coils AUD $ 175.00 per pair

Yes, good and bad. I was able to go faster and smoother, because the coils are much more supple than the air suspension in raised mode. He was begging me to slow down due to rough roads, I was not aware of the rough roads!

However, he was able to go over MANY more obstacles that I could not even attempt due to limited clearance. I regularly thrang my exhaust pipes on every little pebble and dirt clod that sticks up out of the ground. Drives me nuts. I would love to have a like a 4" lift on the fly. That would be awesome!

I am working with a US company to do just that:
http://www.roverspecialties.com/suspension.html

The problem is that they are 2500 miles from me, and don't have many LR3's in their local area to work on as a test bed. I have their interest, and they say they are considering it. I am not holding my breath however. I may do the king replacement coils just to get that extra inch for the time being.

Regards,

NW

PS> A shot this weekend of my LR3 at play. yes, I dragged my exhaust on no less than 4 different points on this little downhill bit.

i havent had mine off road yet but the rear exhaust where it passes under the drive shafts looks extremely vulnerable. also, the spare tyre looks like it could easily be cut by a sharp rock.
i dont think it would be too difficult to put the original air bags and struts into a base model LR3. they would have to be inflated manually but i dont see that as being too much trouble, just depends on how long they hold their air for

The exhaust is way too low. I think they routed it there so that the 3rd row seat occupants would not cook, but I'm a 5 seater, and I really want to reroute those pipes!

The spare tire is surprising not all that vuneable. I've been in a lot of positions to hit it, and it just doesn't seem to happen. But the exhaust...yes. It gets hit a lot.

The nice thing is that it's quite stout piping. It's held the full weight of the car on many occassions, with only minor denting.

Step 1, get roof rack
Step 2, place full size spare on roof rack for outings
Step 3, route single pipe up over rear drive shaft on left side, with plenty of heat shielding of course.
Step 4. Redo mufflers in area of spare tire well.

But I would rather spend the money and effort on suspension lift rather than exhaust work.

Sorry to go off at a tangent, but regarding those Rhino rails with the Rola roof bars, do they make any extra wind noise? I read (here, I think) that ordinary Velcro (hook or loop, again I am not sure) can help reduce the wind noise.

Would you be able to post some photos of the mods required for the Rolas please?

* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)

sorry mate no photos,
i think i cut the centre bars to fit (make sure you measure each one separately, the roof rails are closer at the bach than the front or vice versa)
and then cut down the original rola mount bracket to fit inside the rhino rails. fairly simple stuff once you get started. i got the rola bars from an auto salvage yard
i dont get any wind noise at all
