Was only a tiny squirt really, i dont want to make a habit of it...

I would happily change the glows just fearful of snapping them...

There's plenty of posts on changing out glowplugs on the Forum.

I don't agree with the theory that an engine gets addicted to easy start. If too much is used then you could get burning in the inlet tract which could lead to valve face burning but that's unlikely if only a little is used as you seem to have done.

I use it in cold weather on my tractor to ease the strain on the starter motor and batteries as it can take ages to get it to start whenever the temp is <zero without a wee whiff Thumbs Up
 Stew,

I wouldn't pour hot water over the engine. It won't make it start and will cause more problems.

If you have an IID you can run a reset cycle on the FBH

No IID unfortunately, i dont mind spending what i need to in order to get it sorted, i'll do some searching on the glowplug change...

Main issue is it getting me to work over the weekend, then i'm on rest days for 4 so dont mind undertaking the work then... Took it out for a nice run after starting it earlier, restarted no problems, using it to go out in about an hour so hopefully it'll start later...

As you say buy an FBH remote for now. They were £200? but I see there are ones on ebay for £300 which you can txt your car to start um and are also a car tracker! Treat yourself for xmas Laughing

Then when its warmer think about changing the glowplugs. Ideally when you have use of another car!

We used to push an oil drum full of soaking rags, and set it alight under the old R50 dumptrucks to start them.
Maybe not a good idea with a disco.

Thumbs Up
 Regards
Ray

Sounds like a plan, the car does need a little love anyway, nothing major but niggly jobs...

Used to have a big old flat bed Merc that was the same, used to slide a paraffin heater under it before going home at night just so it would start again in the morning... lol

of course you need to get your FBH working first !

Suggest you find someone local with an IID or investigate problems on here
