D3/D4

Well thought I would try a little survey, I owned and cherished my D3 and owned her for 7.5 years and I kept her in show room condition, but I sold her and upgraded to a D4 but for some unknown reason it doesn’t float my boat like my D3 so the question is why???

I have a D3 for home and a D4 commercial for work. I love the power of the D4 but my D3 has a better ride and is far more comfortable.

Just like an old pair of shoes..... The new ones never feel quite the same - because they are not the same!

I think it is as simple as the D3 was like no land rover that preceded it, the D4 is much of the same hence it does not make you all excited, a comment I have read on here a few times now.

My only gripes so far

1. Gear Stick
2. Keep looking for the ignition switch
3. Always try to put the key in
4. Keep catching the bl**dy flappy paddles
5.Worrying at night someone is taking it off my drive as SWMBO has left the wireless key somewhere

Loving the power though!
 Must stop buying shiny toys....

Agreed, D3 was like a nice worn in pair of loafers, D4 a pair of stiff brogues. Miss the D3, esp with all the adventures had in her, have never missed the D4. When I scrapped the D3 I had to fight not to look back when I left her in that Norwegian garage’s yard, didn’t even think to look back when I sold the D4.

And another difference re D3/D4, the bangin toonz sounded so much better in the S D3 than the HSE D4. And the lights on the D4 were absolutely rubbish cf the D3. Thumbs Up

Mmm, interesting one this.

Back in July I sold my 55 plate D3HSE to a breaker with probably very expensive suspension issues – again.
I did everything to it myself over the years except change the Torque Converter and flush the gearbox.
It broke my heart to see it disappear on a tatty old recovery truck.

I’d had it 9yrs and put @170K miles on it myself, to bring it’s total mileage up to 232K miles.
I would have fixed it again, but at the time I expected to come into some money within weeks and finally realise my dream to upgrade to a D4.

I loved it, it did everything that I wanted a car to do very well, and it just soaked up and dealt with a hard life in many ways.
But at that mileage the suspension bushes needed doing again, I was looking at a third suspension compressor, a third Body Control ECU, and the engine was starting to get very noisy.

For reasons beyond my control I didn’t get the expected funds until just before Christmas, but went straight out and purchased a 65 plate D4 HSE Lux.
I had the funds for a new D5 HSE, but for the reasons debated endlessly on here I just don’t like them.

Obviously I’ve only had it a few weeks, but although I’m very impressed with it I’ve not yet bonded with it, and am still a little ‘scared’ of it.
The tech inside is taking some getting used to, I’m far more careful about where I park it, and don’t like to stick it in the hedge when I meet a car coming the other way down one of the narrow lanes around here.
Lady Nasher I think is a little unimpressed with me insisting the dog is cleaned down a bit more after a walk, but having just brought her a 6 month old Mini to replace her 10 year old one we’ll see how she feels when we take the dog out in it.

It’s the old pair of slippers thing mentioned already.
You know your new pair are superior to your old pair, but you need to bond with them and brake them in.

I think I’ll feel better when I’ve had to change some brake pads or carried out an Oil and filter change.

Nasher.
Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

Replaced my 08GS D3 with a 15SE Tech D4 and can relate to all comments. Had the D3 for 10 years or thereabouts. When I sold it I stood in the middle of the road and watched it drive away until it was out of site with a very large lump in my throat and a tear in my eye.

When I first got in the D3 I instantly felt at home. Everything was in the right place with a very logical layout, in my mind anyway.

The D4 is a far superior motor, again in my mind, and I do love it but yes I do miss my D3.

I'm the same with my D2.

"4. Keep catching the bl**dy flappy paddles" - yep, me too!

"am still a little ‘scared’ of it" - yep, know that feeling!

Pretty much the same for me as I had my 2006 D3 HSE for 10 yrs and im still wondering why I got rid. Replaced her with a 65 plate D4 HSE Lux in Nov 18 and for the first year wished I hadnt for many of the reasons mentioned. Now 14 months on and ive added and changed quite a few bits and pieces to make her my own and its beginning to have that feeling back I had with the D3. Fingers crossed it continues and the crank holds on Shocked Laughing

D3 HSE MY06 missing her still…
