D4 7 pin to 13 pin- Teesside area |
|
Hi all,
I've got the normal 2 X 7 pin sockets on my D4 and I'm wanting to change to a Single 13 pin
Socket as I'm getting sick of using the adaptor I bought plus it's starting to work intermittently and was wondering if anyone could recommend somewhere local to the teeside area to get it swapped over. The car is a 2011 and out of warranty so don't really want To pay dealer prices. Thanks in advance Rog.

Thanks, where's the best to find the part? eBay? Do you know if it's hard to swap over? Cheers Rog.

Easy to swap, but awkward as you have to lie underneath. Spare wheel out helps a lot! And you have to take out two screws to remove near side tail light.
You will have to drill out the screws holding the existing sockets in place as they rust solid overnight when first fitted. A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. eBay is not necessarily the best place, lots of overpriced parts on there.
Dan at Duckworth parts offers a discount on new genuine LR parts: duckworthparts 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Hi Rog,
Cant help with any recommendations but it shouldn't be that hard a job if you've got the time to do it yourself.
I fitted the towing electrics myself as the car didn't have them when I bought it.
Took about an hour all in and might be evens easier as you can see where the existing connectors plug in on the left hand side of the boot and where the cable goes through a rubber grommet behind the left rear light to get into the boot from underneath the car.
Hard part was finding a LR dealer within a 70 mile radius who could do the necessities reprogram to deal with the reversing sensors and the camera which should already be dealt with on yours as it'll already be programmed for towing electrics.
Another tip - I ordered what I thought were the correct 13 pin kit (VPLAT0136) for a D4 from an LR dealet's eBay store only to find it was the kit for the 2014 facelift model.
Meant I had to remove and re-fit the right kit for a pre-2014 (VPLAT0012) so make sure you get the right kit or you'll be kicking yourself

To switch between the twin 7 pin and the single 13 pin only requires changing the last bit of the loom, which is done with the part number I gave earlier.
My understanding is that the VPLAT0012 and VPLAT0136 are identical except for a plastic bracket in the VPLAT0136 kit, which does not have to be fitted. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Sorry Martin - hadn't seen your reply before hitting send on mine.
A much better idea just changing the bottom part of the cable
When I finally got a LR dealer to do the necessary reprogramming, they told me I had the electrics from a 2014 and told me I needed the other. If they were wrong - , would have saved me a good hour of uncessesry clambering around under the car again

If you mean the bit of the loom to switch to a 13 pin socket, then yes. The D3 part YMZ500790 supercedes to LR011211 as above 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
