D4 Battery questions

Looking at the secret squirrel menu I can see the volts drop off quickly when I stop the engine … down to about 12.3volts within a couple of minutes … so I reckon it's time I took some action here.

Car gets mainly short trips so not helping, so would a decent battery charger/conditioner be best way to spend money ?

If not and it's new battery time, I find that based on my reg number, Tayna are offering "017" battery whilst Halfords say "019".

Tayna = Brand Enduroline Product Code 017
Voltage 12 Volts
Technology Wet
Capacity (C20) 95 Ah
Capacity (C100) 105 Ah
CCA (EN) 780 A
CCA (SAE) 840 A
Length 354 mm Width 175 mm Height inc. terms 190 mm
Guarantee 4 Years

£85 delivered.

Halfords = Yuasa 5 Year Guarantee HSB019 Silver 12V Car Battery Extra Info
Startup Power: 900amps
AH Value: 100ah
Bench Charge: 6 Amps
Average Weight: 23.40kg
Dimensions (LxDxH): 353x175x190mm
Guarantee: 5 years
Sealed maintenance free (SMF)

£105

Tayna is much cheaper (even with Halfords tradecard) but i'm reliably informed Halfords will do price-matching (although I reckon it will be on a like-for-like basis so might struggle on this one). Halfords is only 5 mins away so easier if there are issues and no need to pay delivery.

Advice appreciated.

If you get a gift card from Cardyard, you can save even more. I bought the lifetime guarantee battery from Halfords and got it for £121 with my trade card.

The £100 giftcard cost £85.

Don't forget you'll need to reset the battery monitor system using the IID tool on a D4.

I do already have vouchers I can use at Halfords, but maybe will look if I can buy the Cardyard ones with the EdenRed ones I have.

I thought AGM was needed for a D4 ?
Halfords do an own label 4 year guarantee 019 AGM for about £147 with a trade card.
Personally I would prefer to buy a battery locally - bit of a Censored to send one back to an online shop.

Hi PhilM … thanks for the pointer for Advanced. Not a lot in it price-wise, so probably go with Halfords as it's closer (and I have vouchers Smile )

D4mation ... I don't have the "blessing" of stop/start so I'm not limited to AGM. A few months ago, typing in my reg no on Halfords offered the AGM "as an upgrade" but doesn't do that now. No idea why.

I do have an iiD tool so changing type won't be an issue but i will have a look in the morning what type is fitted and hopefully see fitted or manufactured date. If it's lasted well, i'll possibly just do life for like ( I think it's a Yuasa )

btw … left car for about 90 mins yesterday after 50 mins drive and it had dropped to 11.7 volts, so looking like a change is becoming a need rather than a precautionary measure.

Any D4 will behave better particularly in the winter with an AGM, that's why LR changed to standard fit AGM early in the D4's life.

with main menu showing on the infotainment screen …

press and hold middle of top bar for about 10 seconds

press and hold top left of same bar for about 4 seconds

let go and key pad appears … code is 753 to unlock it.

My 2012 build D4 had an AGM fitted when new.
AGM can better tolerate periods of low charge state, which happens a lot with the D4 BMS.

AGM Thumbs Up

My 2012 D4 was supplied with a wet battery but changed to an AGM by LR under warranty. Later ones were AGM from new even before stop-start.

BUT - if you change the battery type, you must configure it in the CCF and do a BMS reset.

ok ... dug out the Fluke and popped bonnet. 12.4v across battery.

re-assembled battery box (PITA ... all the sides seem to have minds of their own ), checked on secret squirrel menu and it's saying 12.0 volts. I'd say good correlation, given it was then running some electrickery.
