Might be interested in the floor from the commercial if you want to move it on?
Good luck with the conversion.

Hello,

When I did my old 2008 d3 all the wiring was present, just needed to buy the rear and front curtain airbags, and then enable them in the CCF.

Hope this helps.

You don't have to as long as it continues to be mainly used for commercial purposes IIRC.

edit: I may have made that up.

I didn't plan on re-registering it at the moment, are there problems in doing so?

well vehicle been build for purpose and that should be indicated in your reg documentation hence it should not be certified to carry more than 2 people right?

i am just interested in whether it is doable not saying it is not and the whole process...

You may have to get it reclassified as an M1 if you have retrofitted everything including original 7 seats, belts, etc, and pay the M1 rate of road tax too.

You might get away with it until it comes to a roadside commercial vehicle inspection (of which often crops up in the UK) or it's first MOT, or if it is being inspected by the Police/VOSA/your insurance company after any accident, claim or incident......

But don't let that put you off the idea completely!

I don't think there are any problems at all in re-registering a commercial as a pasenger vehicle.

I can think of a few however if you don't, HMRC, Road Fund Licence, Invalidated Insurance. To name but three.

Given that I run a Commercial with a seat conversion, I don't want to come across as all hypocritical but surely, if you want a car.... buy a car!

There will always be compromises with a converted Commercial - I tend to run around with the thing full of site gear (theodolite, boots, PPE and much, much more) but have a bona-fide van conversion set of 2nd row seats from a company that fits out crew vans - the seats are fitted in case I need to take clients to site and/or if I need to collect the kids from school. We tried tying the youngest to a pallet but he wasn't keen...

As such, we get a full Certificate of Conformity to send to our insurers (a copy also stays in the vehicle in case of roadside inspection) and I retain the tax benefits of having a company 'van'.

To my mind, getting pukka LR seats and then reverse engineering the airbags, stereo and all the other bits is simply taking things too far and you should be re-registering the thing as a car and paying the appropriate rates of tax... both personal tax and road fund licence.

If you want a Commercial, use it as one... otherwise just buy a car and don't then fret about the semantics of can I, should I, could I...?

Rant over...

D5 Commercial - Handed back when I left that job…
D4 Commercial (2014MY) - gone
D4 Commercial SDV6 - Baltic Blue (also gone)
D1 300TDi... 2" lift, HD bumpers (both), detachable tow hitch, 9,500lb winch, 235/85/16 muds and plenty of other toys (gone to make way for the next toy...)

Smiles per Mile - Tornado Motorsports caged Evo 3... 100" Defender look-alike, with Range Rover running gear - all fully IVA'd and registered!

just to add, if my memory serves me well, I fink yer need to get Single Vehicle Type Approval from VOSA for it to be re-registered as a passenger vehicle £80-£90.

Its also a criminal offence not to display the correct Vehicle Excise Duty under RTA 1986 which would lead to the vehicle possibly being impounded at the roadside or at worst your insurance would be invalidated.

As has being echoed on here, yes the above is doable but why would you Shocked
