Has anyone actually lost a motor to 5.0 chain guides?

Been looking for an LR4 for the bride, found one that needs timing chain guides, it's a 2010 and this is a known issue with them. It does apparently have a DTC for timing, is running, making noise, etc. Given that this engine uses a chain, has anyone actually lost an engine from a chain guide failure? Or is it more of a "feature?" The job of replacing them would get done but it's a 18 hr shop job so probabky double that for me.
From what I can tell shops quote around $5K-ish US for the job. Guides are $500ish, whole chain kits are $1000 plus you need the kit to time and hold the cams for the chains.

I had one of the early Jag XK8s which suffered from chain guides breaking up. Someone thought it would be a good idea to make them from plastic Shocked later models had uprated metal guides. Any way kit price was a similar price and once you started to hear the rattle it was never a "get it into the garage asap" in case the chains came off and wrecked the engines, as they never did as each bank of cylinders had an aux chain so if one went the other held on and kept the engine safe.
May be a similar set up in yours. Thumbs Up

My LR4 had to have the guides replaced. The shop doing the work called me to say they could do it at short notice as the parts were on hand. Their story was that they had ordered the parts for a Range Rover Sport, but the owner decided to drive it over xmas rather than wait for the work.

It went pop and I got her parts.

I have no reason not to believe this story. They only charged around 3k CAD.
