D4 DRL, anyone know the true facts......

My D4 is brand new and so I thought it would come with DRL as I was 100% sure that any new car registered after Feb 2011 had to have DRL as standard. But it doesnt seem to have them, when I start the engine they are not on and when I select D, they do not come on.

After many a searches on the forum I found myself going around in circles with regards DRL on the D4.

Some members saying if you have side lights then you wont have them, others saying they are the fairy lights in the headlights, etc, etc.

I know that you can have optional DRL's fitted to the bumper where the vents are under the fog lights, is this extra to the standard DRL or is this extra DRL's

Does anybody have the definiative answer when it comes to DRL on the D4.

On UK spec D4 you have standard side lights single bulb in lower corner on head light or dependant on spec the fairy lights aroud the mai headight. These all eithrr come on when manually switched on or in auto mode will come on with main lights when it gets dark.DTRL can be set to come on by some with their box of tricks as soon as the car is started but this just brings the whole headlight on. The only current option for proper DTRL is the optional ones fitted in the lower bumper grill.
You are right in the fact all new cars require them but tgat is all new models and as the D4 is an old model LR do not need to fit them. Hppe that helps.

It's any new car after Feb 2011(?) which must have DRL's. That means a new model or one that's been significantly modified, not the date of first registration; hence the Evoque and FFRR (and new RRS) have them, but the D4 doesn't.

Many thanks Russell & nigel207 Thumbs Up and dangerdave Thumbs Up

So the key word is "new type approved passenger vehicles" after feb 2011.

Thats that sorted and so quickly as well, what to do for the rest of the day Whistle

I was thinking about fitting them myself, site sponsor duckworths has them at 341.78 + the dreaded (vat).

I was looking at the instructions on topix, looks very indepth, with the usual land rover instructional pictures only.

I dont mind doing things like that, retro fitted the hybid tv in the d3 and also the oem spots with the wirring harnes on the d3 abar, so not too scared.

I will give it a think over and see if I fancy the challenge.......

I assume DRLs will become standard with the MY14 revisions - they were added to the Freelander 2 as part of its MY13 updates.

The lights on the my14 are supposed to be similar to the ones on the new rrs & rr.
