D4 Gear Lever Modification

I love my new D4 but something I find rather ugly in an otherwise classy interior is the length of the gear selector (6 speed). It doesn't look right...

Also the official LR pictures appear to show a modified, shorter one which looks much better. See both pics below.

Has anyone tried to shorten it, is it possible? Or is it a stupid idea?

What year are yours, I'm pretty sure mine looks like the bottom picture, mines also the 6 speed (2010)

My knob is fully engaged! What have I started??

The picture is not my car, it's just a pic from google image search. If you look for "Discovery 4 interior" there are many. All aside from the official pictures (top) show the long lever which I definitely have.

I've only got a lowly D3 auto, but the gear leaver looks more like the top photo

Does LHD/RHD matter. Can't make out what hand drive the bottom photo is.

I have a MY10 and mine is like the lower picture, I agree I would like the shorter gear lever!
