D4 - general reliability - is it better than a D3? ...

Chaps. I am still considering a D4, but was trawling through posts on the D4 specific forums, and it strikes me that there seems to very little complaint about some faults that affect many D3's.

Electronic Park Brake?
Suspension bushes?
Steering joints?
Tyre wear?

What's the general opinions on reliability? Especially from those who upgraded from a '3' and have now covered a good few miles in a '4'

Only done 15k miles in 12 months in my D4 but not had any problems other than the TSB for the wobbly steering wheel and a replacement surround camera fitted due to some corroded connections Confused

Not used the D4 off road though so not have to do any arduous maintenance either.

D4 is a much better car but also much more blingy.

If I could afford to trade the D3 in for a D4 commercial for "play" I would do Thumbs Up

Two years, 24,000 miles and it hasn't missed a beat. I'm hedging my bets and getting a new one next month though. Laughing

My main reservation is with the coloured wheels arch trims. Given the choice, I'd specify black plain plastic as on the D3. The current version scratch easily and are hard to touch up effectively meaning you have to re-spray the whole trim.

on my second D4 now with no issues

some points to consider

•D4's are not that old yet
•many (most in fact) parts are carried over from the D3 and at this stage in a models life (7 years) many faults have been identified and are prevented by alterations to the QA and manufacturing process

so in short go for it you will love a D4 !

Well there is no one more knowledgeable than you on how to remove the bumper without tools, so thats a mod waiting isn't it Dunc Mr. Green

I have had my D4 since December last year and clocked up 17.5k so far. Hasn't missed a beat and have used it for towing tipping trailer across a silt bog with at leads 5 tonne on the trailer, got it stuck, even with MTR's, dumped the trailer and it drove straight out. Has pulled the 1.5 tonne digger for at lead 3k miles and then tonked across Europe at 100 mph plus. Overall delighted with its reliability, but owing to the mileage considering changing it for another one!

I've had my D4 for 2 years with 32k on the clock. I haven't had any problems whatsover. Initial set of tyres changed (for GG AT's) at 27k which I though was ok for such a heavy car Very Happy

20 months old only been at dealers once for a service thats it Very Happy touch wood ! Far better for reliability than the old D3.
One thing taking it to the stealers to check the tracking for excessive outer tyre wear, which to be honest most D3/D4 suffer from, well at least the ones i have encountere Thumbs Up

30,000 kms over 15 months, and the only fault has been the LED puddle lamp in the driver's door mirror failing (after 2 days of ownership).

I had a control unit fault when a couple of weeks old but sorted quickly and very happy Thumbs Up

But I'm also happy in the D3, doesn't quite fell so wrong to rag around off road in it.

I have had mine just over a year and no faults other than a warranty replacement ipod cable as the connection wasnt good and the audio would mess up unless you pushed it up or down (like an old phono connection on its way out). By this time, my two previous cars, both Audi, had been in multiple times for faults.

I have heard it said that the D3 drivers were the test drivers for the D4. They suffered the pain, the D4 drivers got the gain.
