D4 HSE vs New RRS

I had a trip to the dealer today to check out the new RRS as my D4 is coming up to 3 years old and I was thinking about a change. The RRS is about 5" longer than the D4 but where has all the space gone ? I can touch the back seats from the boot whereas I can only just see it from the D4. Back seats, and I'm only 5'6" leave about 8-10" from the back of the drivers seat and the back of them is hard plasticky cardboard with a tacky net rather than the soft leather and proper pocket on the Disco. And then I had to move the seat back when I got in the drivers seat and I drive like Mr McGoo !

I really wanted to like the RRS and had an HSE specified with low ratio and everything in the website but in the metal it disappointed. Lovely to look at outside but this was a tricked uo Autobigraphy at a fiver short of £80k. My MY11 D4 HSE really did put it to shame so it's off for 2 new tyres, an MOT and a LR warranty.

I didn't know that LR do an extended warranty until I saw your post. I went off to the website and typed in my reg (i've got a 61 reg so it's still in warranty ATM) and it costs £910 per year - yikes!

Is that about what yours would cost? Do you think it's worth it?

£910 doesn't get you very much labour time at a LR main dealer. Is it worth it? Well you've got to ask yourself do I feel lucky? Well do you pmajor?

I've only had my disco for 2 weeks, so I guess I haven't experienced the pain of a servicing yet Wink

So you would buy it?

I'm going to buy it but the additional LR Assistance is just AA and there are better offers on that

Saw the new RRS at Carfest yesterday. Nice in the front, but I found the back seats claustrophopic with the high window line. The boot was small, the loading cill very high. I like the look of the car, especially the black grills, but it was parked next to an Evoque, and it is very similar, just bigger. I really hope they keep some separate identities between models, I really don't like all this expansion of a similar design to make a range of models.

I've been invited twice to view it. By my dealer, and been busy both times.
I understood they had addressed the main issue of the previous one, the appalling packaging.....it was large on the outside and tiny on the inside.reading the above posts it would seem not.
What we all have to remember is that nothing compares to a Discovery in its packaging, not the new FFRR and not the new RRS.
The Discovery is literally the Swiss Army knife for the road, and everything else is a poor second.Where the RRS will have a slight advantage is that its been on a diet of aluminium, and no doubt will react quicker to steering inputs.......
I'd hold out for the D5 personally Bob......a lighter Discovery based on the FFRR platform, with the same space and packaging as the current D4 ?....now that sounds tempting Thumbs Up

My D4 is three years old in September, but my current thinking is to wait for the announcement of the new model, and at that stage, based upon what I think of the new one, decide between that and one of the last of the D4s, (which will probably be going at a decent discount by then). The D5 (or whatever it will be called) will have a lot to live up to as I see it, but I look forward to the unveiling.

RRs don't appeal for several reasons.

That's my two-penneth anyway,

Ray

The sales guy didn't seem too surprised when I decided that the new RRS wasn't for me. His parting shot was to say that a Disco replacement was on the cards for 2015 (as widely suggested here and elsewhere)9 but that they couldn't add anything else at that stage.

It'll be interesting to see how the RRS fares on Top Gear tonight.

After seeing the RRS in the flesh, which is a very nice looking vehicle but not catering to the practicalities I need, nothing would get me out of my D3 except a D4 with significant enough changes to not make me feel it was just a facelift.

I really like the D4 but, as I did when I had the choice of D4/D3 when purchasing, it didn't feel enough of a change to make it worth the huge premium I was being expected to pay.

A merge of D4 and RRS styling to keep the practicalities, latest gizmos and gadgets, ally frame and 45 mpg+ on a run gets me out of my D3 and in to a D5.

Until they tell me it costs 80k that is Laughing Big Cry

P.S Would being lighter remove some of its towing abilities? It's current weight is an advantage at the moment, right?

I needed to swop my d3 for something newer, but wasn't sure wether to go for a D4, new Rorschach or a Farr.

In the end I have ordered a d4 in Orkney grey with the black pack option.

It seems TG liked it !

As far as the specs say for the RRS HSE, the max towing weight is still 3500kg.

Fully agreed.

Get a deal on a D4 now.

When the D5 arrives it will be more expensive with a full price waiting list.
