D4 Off Road Capability/Specifications

Hi all,

Does anyone know how capable the D4 will be off road; ie,

Approach/Departure Angle & Max Gradient

Ground Clearance

Wading Depth

My better half likes the look of the D4 but I am concerned that it wont survive a trip around our property.

Also, do you think it would be possible to swap the 19 inch rims with 17 or 18 inch steel rims and Light Truck All Terrain tyres.

Many thanks

Cooch

it appears that the 3.0 TDV6 will get brakes that are too big for 17" rims but maybe 18" will fit but yet to be ascertained. It appears that the 2.7 TDV6 will get the same discs as the D3 so unless it gets the D3 V8 brake callipers, 17" should fit.
I need to know whether 18" will fit the 3.0 as I'm not getting the 3.0 engine if it needs at least 19".

Not sure if the wheels will fit, infact I dont think they will as the brakes are bigger. Why would you want 17"'s on anyway, they'd look revolting!.

The D$ will be very much like the D3 but the Terrain Systems have been improved. Like in rock crawl, the brakes will not allow ANY slip backwards unless reverse gear is chosen.....

I would like to put on 17 or 18 inch steel rims so that I can put on Light Truck All Terrain tyres, as I need a 4WD that can handle rocky/muddy terrain every now and then - as well as on the tarmac. Standard AT tyres get too many punctures as the side walls are not thick enough.

Approach/departure angles remain unchanged Thumbs Up

Should fit 18's, but almost certainly not 17's unless you have the basic 2.7 version instead of the lovely 3.0l version Thumbs Up

I hear they have fiddled with the TR and it now has a 'sand launch' feature.

According to the glossy brochure, the max. ground clearance is now 31cm, the d3 being previously 24cm. The adjustable range has also increased. However on the price / options list the d4 max. ground clearance is listed as 24cm.

Anyone know which LR doc is correct, any changes ? and what is the max. ground clearance (Super extended mode ?) in different modes ?
