My 2010 D4 can take a few attempts to get it to work so keep trying. It needs left for a while after running, 10 or more minutes I find.

I've never got it to work when stone cold - temperamental machine Rolling with laughter
 Stew,

2010 D4 gone but I really loved it

How much does each segment quantify in oil on the dash? Checked my oil level the other week and it has gone down a segment on the dash from MAX. However if it was to drop again I`d be inclined to put some in ...

The hood needs to be opened for the trick of seeing the level before the 20 minutes waiting time. (20 or whatever infinite time when you are on a hurry...)

Ask me how I know It... Laughing

You can see the level with zero waiting time. Very useful when changing oil and putting to level.

I've been experimenting with this and it seems to be around one disposable plastic water cooler cup full of oil per segment! I had let mine go down three segments before experimenting, one cupful at a time.

I was surprised to find that there was a subtle, but noticeable, difference in engine smoothness when completely full again Shocked

Just worth bearing in mind that while the oil level readout will be quick and a great deal more convenient using this method, it will also be inaccurate; it takes a while for all of that oil to drain back down to the sump to be measured.

You shouldn't put any oil in unless the car asks for it.

I'll go with that, mine was down one segment, took one mug full to bring it up to the mark. It has been said that when it gets low enough it will tell you how much to add, don't recall seeing it in the handbook though.
