Pretty sure that the arrival of as blue stops fitting of the ac I remember it being a weight issue related to vehicle tax category if I recall.. Never new you could get 16 plates with rear ac ..every days a school day

Weight actually sounds like a feasible reason, I have always read it was due to lack of space, which is obviously wrong.

Could possibly be tax related in the UK if it is weight related. I Sweden the tax is based on fuel consumption alone as long as the max weight does not pass 3500kg, which it doesn’t on mine.
