D4 Security

Coming from a mainly Defender back ground I am used to a layered approach to physical security to hinder the thieving scumbags from stealing doors/bonnets/spare wheels etc.

Had a D2 previously but a new to us D4 will shortly be joining the fleet.

So what are the main security devices used on a D4? Spare wheel protection plate will be going on, on day 1

This is what will be shortly joining our fleet

Disabling Keyless Entry, Disklock (think medium size?), shotgun and an alert dog!

My 2016 car has a plastic dish over the spare wheel. I have assumed that after ten years of model production that Landrover R and D have finally woken up and included the measure (at a cost of 45p per vehicle to LR) to prevent spare wheel theft.
Can someone confirm that it is to help stop theft and also can somebody tell me why it was not fitted to all cars from 2006?........

The plastic dish is to keep the wheel clean and can be cut in seconds. It is in no way a security feature. The only sure way of preventing theft of your spare wheel is to get one of Uncle Ray's wheel protectors

Yes the plastic cover is no defence.
Someone had cut mine with a view to stealing the spare.
Fortunately I had a plate fitted from uncle ray so all was well.

 D4 2016 Landmark, Waitomo Grey.
D3 2005 HSE, Bonatti Grey, now sold but still comes back for servicing.
Defender 2002 Td5 Commercial, had a hard life but slowly being restored.
I only work so I can afford to repair my Land Rovers!

The 3 x lock then lights on sequence on dibber (I think) to switch off keyless entry worked on my folks’ D4 just like that one. Thumbs Up

A slightly less secure option for the keyless entry risk is to keep your keys in a Faraday cage / bag. Means you can carry on using keyless entry if you want.

I disabled keyless entry on my 2011XS yesterday morning. Spotted mirrors weren't folded when I got up to make a coffee and locked the car. Embarassed

Strangely I never managed to disable it on ex-my MY11 HSE, tried many, many times. Took a bit of getting used to my old present banger bit having keyless bit. Rolling Eyes

Yep that worked for me, think I disabled it on the second day of owning my D4. Its a nice feature but a massive security risk.
