d4 stainless side tubes
thinking of the above on new d4....how easy to fit ....is it simply a couple of bolts from underneath or have you got to start taking the car apart...also advantages /disadvantages

side protection tubes
well thanks for that ------looks a little more involved than i thought....im a bit reluctant to start cutting holes in cill plates etc as its only done 543 miles.....will price it out with lr dealer---- was hoping there was just 3 holes i could bolt onto....dissappointed as the bars/tubes appear cheapish

Go for it.
I put a set on my 2012 D4 Luxury last week. Stainless Tubes with steps, really look the part. They took about 2 hours a side. Cutting out the plastic trim is no sweat.
Just a few little tips, like do not put the bolts in the under neath of the rear brackets and the front bolt on the front brackets until after you fit the plastic trim back into place as these three bolts also hold the plastic trim in position, also lightly bolt the Stainless bar in place to make sure all the holes line up before you tighten the brackets up and refit the plastic trim.
Hope this makes sense. It is a very easy add on. They also protrude far enough to be a good protection against careless morons

I have fitted these on two occasions - once on our D3 and once on our D4. I am hopeless with tools however, this is an easy job and took me less than 1.5 hours at a very steady pace. My 11 year old nephew did one side!
I have not done one for 3.5 years and this is from memory:
Remove plastic sill covers. A good screwdriver is sufficient. Bolt the three brackets to the car (holes are already drilled. Cut holes in plastic sill cover. The template for the holes is already marked on the sill cover. Refit sill cover. Drill with hole cutter required. Bolt Chrome bar to brackets. I have a cheap socket set.Current:

side tube fitting
well, thanks for all the info boys....didnt realise the cill plate is plastic so any holes made will not start rust,,,although i guess it would allow water into the cill void...not sure about the exterior bracket type...thinks the brackets could get hitch up whilst off road...all food for thought,,and thanks,,,,going to do some market research

This is my first post since registering. Have just recently taken delivery of my first D4 and like the look of your black side tubes Euan but I have the genuine Land Rover mud flaps fitted and I recall you mentioning in a previous post that they do not fit with these flaps. Is this true or can they be modified simply?

Icemac welcome
I have the series mudflaps and they're fine, however as you rightly say the LR ones won't fit as they extend too far back in the bodywork....the bumf on the tubes says you have to adjust the LR ones to fit,but I honestly can't see how you could do that short of totally destroying them..."Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Thank you for your informative reply. I am looking for something to protect the car in car parks and enable my grandson to get in without assistance! Not keen on cutting the plastic sills even although Land Rover must to fit their own side steps.

How far do the stainless steel tubes protrude from the car? Are they likely to help prevent supermarket car park door dings at off road height?

I have LR SS side tubes on my D4 and no they won't stop the supermarket hitting the door they don't protrude far enough, so I have LR door protectors as well.
