D4 Suspension fault C1A36-01 - 90 miles from home

Happy new year everyone! I wish I could say the same for my D4 (2012 SDV)

Currently in holiday with the family in the Leominster area. Have driven through some standing water on the near side this morning if relevant. Returned to the car from a long walk around a National trust estate, Went to fire the D4 and got "Suspension Fault" warning straight away. Compressor does not run and height change is not possible.

Drove it gently 10 miles back to the cottage where we're staying and read out a C1A36-01 from the RLM

C1A36-01 = Compressor Exhaust Valve General failure.

My 2012 D4 has the older Hitachi Compressor (disappointingly)

I've checked the 60Amp fuse under the bonnet - Looks OK but no tools with me to check

To be fair the car has been a bast**d to drive the last few days. The handling has been all over the place, pulling this way and that and I was planning to have the alignment rechecked when I got back to Bristol.

Driving the 10 miles with the fault light the car seemed to handle much more natural (no pulling side to side) but a little softer.

I read lots about this code on D3's but none on D4's.

Am I looking at a shot Compressor ?
Should I go for the AMK upgrade ?

Can I risk driving back to Bristol or is a call to the AA on the cards ?

Funnily enough my car same year as yours just had a new AMK compressor fitted a few month back. Similar fault code I think according to AA man. Was booked in to get it replaced and all ok. I was still able to drive mine just could not lower the height or select special programs !

D4 Broken wire to Compressor Exhaust valve - Go check yours.

Well I didn't expect that.

Ordered a new Compressor only to have the same Exhaust Port failure code. Traced the wire to this large connector behind the N/S (left) headlight.

The Black/White white to the Exhaust port has been rubbing against the washer bottle filler tube and it now broken. 5 minutes with a soldering iron and some new wire fixed it.

The headlights are really easy to remove and I suggest checking your cars as a preventative measure.

Hi!
I got the same fault. After no succes with new compressor and new reseirvor solenoids, I have added two wires from the plug in the picture to the plug near the compressor.

All now is working!

Thanks for sharing.
In my car were not possible to see the broken wire, so I recommend to check the cable befor to replace expansive components.
