D4 Tailgate handle on to a D3

After much faffing to get the tailgate handle off my D3 I went to for the tailgate handle I bought from a D4 my to find the plugs are totally different.

The original has 4 wires going in to the plug and the replacement has 6! The shape is similar but obviously bigger to accomodate the extra wires. New unit has a reverse camera fitted and was at some point hoping to get a GVIF to hook it up to. It also has another wire with a brown plug that I assumed was for the video feed.

Question is will I ever get this to fit? Happy to cut the plug off the old one to get it to fit but no idea which wires to match up they are all black!

Any help much appreciated

If memory serves me right you have two thicker wires and two thinner ones the circuit should make and break when testing with an ohm meter. I soldered the new wires onto the old plug. As issue is water gets into the switch causing problems. PM me if you need to call me hope this helps. Steve

There ate two wires for the switch I think thicker pair and another pair for number plate lights this is from original socket. On your new loom you have two black and green plugs these connect to number plate lights. Slowly coming back to me lol. I hope that makes it a bit easier Thumbs Up

Just to close this one off when I had both units side by side I realised how easy it was to take the looms off so just swapped them over. Took about 30 mins from start to finish

Yep. Have kept the old loom so when the time comes the reverse camera can get wired in easily with all the right connections.
