D4 Towbar and IDDTool

Pretty sure the answer is no (have tried searching for a definitive answer but failed):

Is there any CCF/ECU setting to 'Enable the Towbar on a 2012 D4? The electrics work as advertised but I plugged an IDDTool in just in case and can't find any relevant ECU settings.

I rarely use the towbar having fitted it from a genuine LR kit when I got the car from new. My D3 didn't need any reprogramming and I just forgot to look into it until now for the D4.

Thanks

I couldn't find the towing electrics CCF options on mine (2010 D4) either. I don't think that they are there (yet).

You can freely use the demo account on the BBS genesis website to see your vehicles CCF settings and what is possible to be adjusted etc

Here is a link to the genesis site

http://vbf2.blackbox-solutions.com/FaultmateGenesis-Server

The demo account has a user name of demo and a Password of genesisdemo.

After which select the CCF edit function and the upload as built form BBS, then enter your VIN.

It all seems pretty magical, but it's just what we do Shocked

I fitted tow bar and electrics myself but had to put to local dealer to get it re-programmed which took half an hour to do. I have a 2010 D4. Hope this is of some help to you

I fitted mine a couple of years ago and have not had any issues so I expect it was probably enabled when the dealer did the PDI. This is my 5th Disco and I always fit a towbar myself and the dealer knows that.

Having said that, I'm still interested in the CCF config. Last night I remembered that I had emailed GAP before I bought the IIDTool and asked a couple of questions and this was the reply:

"Thank you so much for your interest in our products.

Can I re-write the CCF to enable the 'Timed Climate' function on the Fuel Burning Heater? Yes

and can I activate the 'Tow Bar Fitted' option in the CCF as well? Also a yes.

If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask."

Not an issue for me if it does not enable the towbar electrics but I've emailed their tech support to see what I'm doing wrong just in case. By the way, the Timed Climate took about 5 minutes to enable from opening the box (including activating the tool)!

Got a reply from GAP. The Towbar stuff is in the latest update. Unfortunately while updating my IIDTool my PC threw a wobbly and I bricked my IIDTool!!!!

Spent a few hours emailing back and forth to GAP and I have to say their level of tech support is out of this world. My unit is now back up and running. Had this been an Apple device the 'Genius Bar Reps' would have given up at the first hurdle.

For info there are now 4 options in the BCM Body Control ECU for the Towbar but I've run out of time and can't risk making any mistakes as I need the car tomorrow so I've had to give up until the weekend. All I've ascertained is that none of the relevant options are enabled for my truck.

Again, I can't praise GAP enough on their support.

I think it is 'Trailer module' and then select the type of electrics fitted, there are about 7 different options.

Gap is building an enviable reputation for personal and highly professional customer service.

From GAP themselves:

IIDTool Menu -> Car Configuration -> BCM Body Control ->
-Tow bar set to Yes
-Trailer towing ball set to Fitted
-Trailer stability assist (if surround cam are fitted)
-Trailer module (should be left alone if the lights are working correctly)

Checked it out and they are all there. Latest Firmware 2.18.05 Build 0430

Trailer module 7-position socket with rear foglight
Trailer module 7-position socket with reverse light
Trailer module 7-position socket with power supply
Trailer module 13-position socket
Trailer module 4-position socket
Trailer module 7-position socket (pin 7 not in use)

Thanks, hadn't looked at that option as my lights are working fine. Got to leave it until the weekend now as I'm off out the UK on business. Will post results when I have looked at it again.

Hi,

here are all CCF settings for trailer and tow bar (from a faultmate):
Towing Ball Fitment: fitted
NAS Trailer Lights: Disabled (in EU)
Rear Fog Lights off when Trailer Connected: Enabled

This are the EUCD settings:
Trailer module: options see post above
Towbar: Trailer tow attachment
Trailer stability assist: enabled (I think even without surround cameras!)
Trailer fog lamp: Rear fog lamps off when the trailer is present

Greetings

Thanks

All those options are now in the IIDTool Body Control Menu. Unfortunately I can't get it to write to the CCF, it just exits to the main menu after I confirm that I want to write the changes. I managed to write the Timed Climate options without any issues so I don't think it is anything I'm doing.

Run out of time again so I'll email GAP tomorrow and see what I'm missing!

Figured it out eventually. Things go much better when you read the manual! I was getting mixed up between the iPhone interface and the Cruise Control Button entering options.

The CCF write went fine this time, however with the latest firmware there are a lot of Ignition Off/On cycles which the manual doesn't warn about. Also the radio came on halfway through! The 2012 Disco needs the Radio off to start communication with the IIDTool but having it switch on didn't adversely effect the write. With the latest firmware there were no warning lights left after it had finished the write. My previous experience enabling the Timed Climate with a lower firmware level had left the ABS light and a few others on for a couple of ignition cycles (warned about in the manual). I suppose that is why there are now a few more ON/OFF cycles during the write.

Overall, very pleased with the whole experience. Now, if I can only work out why there is a connector at both ends of the latest Remote Climate Receiver Antenna......
