Do it.. you won't believe that the car is the same chassis... light years different... less like driving a truck and more like driving a limousine... the difference is amazing.. you will not be disappointed!
The only negative is the lack of storage cubby holes for the driver... Very Happy

Oh and welcome to the forum! Very Happy

If storage is the only bad point that's good.... any idea what they are like on fuel?

I was in the incredibly fortunate position of owning both at the same time. The D3 (G4) version I've kept because of what it is... a fantastic utility truck.... the D4 I had as a company car for 2.5 years and 60,000 miles. It was brilliant, powerful smooth and a fantastic vehicle.
By far the most practical family car out there which never put a foot wrong all the time I owned it!
Do it you won't regret it! Very Happy

as above expect for economy - dont beleve any of the bump on a D4 being more economical than a D3, they arent. I had 2 D3's and 2 D4's and the best economy was the first D3 as it was a manual. All the others have been autos (6 speed D3 and 2 x 8speed D4's). The economy has been about the same on all of them. As for ecomomy when towing (1800kg T/A caravan) I've been down at 17mpg when pushing on a bit in France, but without doubt, best tow car you can get.

There is only one car better than a D4 for towing and that is a D5. Just come back from France towing a large TA caravan with D5 and it was superb and towed better than all the D4's I have had

I agree with all the above, I currently have both a D3 HSE and a D4 HSE Lux, the D4 is a far smoother drive with less body roll when cornering and it has a lot more engine power especially when overtaking, the inside of the D4 is a lot more luxurious as well and a nice comfortable place to sit during long drives Thumbs Up

I feel that there isn't a lot between the two of them where fuel economy is concerned
