D4 XS - Used or new ?

Hi,

After almost buying a D3 a couple of years ago (we ended up hanging on to our current MPV till finances improved) my wife and I are now more or less decided that we will go for a D4. The XS seems to give us the spec we want, although there's possibly an argument for buying a GS and adding the options we really want.

My dilemma now is whether we go for a used (say 10 plate) version or take the plunge with a new one. It seems to me from looking at the LR approved site that low mileage XS models are priced at around £40K, when a new one can be had for £43 ish. That doesn't seem like a huge difference and makes me inclined to go for a new one.

One thing I have found very frustrating is the difficulty (at least on the LR website) of finding a straightforward list of standard equipment for the various models, and a list of options for each, with relevant prices. Any help there would be appreciated.

Apologies if there are threads dealing with these questions but I haven't found any so far.

Thanks in anticipation.

P

I did a quick calculation of the cost of spec'ing a new GS to the same level as the XS and it comes out at more than £2k of a saving.

The flip side I suppose is that it will still be just a GS when it comes to sale/trade in so the value will reflect that and I will lose some or all of what I saved at purchase. Then again we tend to keep our cars for at least 5/6 years so value would in all probability be less of an issue at sale time.

Swings and roundabouts methinks.....

You won't lose £2k of value I won't think on a GS over a XS at trade in. Maybe a GS to HSE but not just a XS.
