At a guess, I'd say they design vehicles with big wheels in mind. If you fit real-world sized wheels you get a strange look.
If you look at the DC100 concept here, the wheels are huge - ridiculously big. If you fitted even an 18 inch rim on that it would look out of proportion.

Thank you very much to all of you!
I liked the 22" wheels, so I had to choose the whole Dynamic Pack and, to enhance the contrast with the gloss black bits, I chose a light colour. On paper, I liked Silicon Silver very much, but my dealer had a demo Discovery Sport in that colour and it looked too brownish, so I thought about Aruba, but, in the end, opted for Indus Silver... And, to be sure I would spend all my savings, I opted for the contrasting black roof.
Anyway, now that I've seen it in the metal, I can only say that I am very happy with it!
I was afraid the 22" wheels could ruin the ride, but two weeks ago my dealer let me drive a demo First Edition with 22" rims and it rode better than I expected, even on poor tarmac.
I can't wait to have it in my courtyard. I will post some more photos, also of the interior, which is light grey with blue piping ("courtesy" of the complete Dynamic Pack).
I know the specifications make it more suitable for the city than for serious off-roading, but I love the silver/black combination and the big rims (the car is bigger than I imagined, more american size, than european, so you need the big wheels).
