I had 7 people in the D4 for a week whilst in the oknies around 6 years ago. I can honestly say I have never seen a D3or 4 with 7 people in. If I could have configured without 7 seats in i would have. I had D1 and those back seats were a joke. So I'm not going to get too hung up about thigh support.
My point being how many travel with 7 adults for any distance.

We use 7 seats a lot. Whether its at our French home moving friends and family around when going out, or transporting members of my daughters hockey team to matches with all their kit, or taking my kids friends out and about or moving my guys from site to site, the 7 seat configuration works really well for me. Add in the split tailgate and its a winner and a key differentiator from the other offerings out there.
For me the D5 with its off road capability is badly designed and packaged. LR have now designed a Euro/Korean jelly mold that you can buy from anyone. Extreme off road capability is a limited differentiator in this crowded segment. Having uncomfortable and poorly designed second row seats is a big mistake.

The forums and their members are the smallest customer base of JLR. I would guess more then 80% of buyers never visit a brand forum.

Are we talking about the 2nd or 3rd row?
I didn't find the 2nd row very comfortable (6'2") but didn't even try the 3rd as I never use them. Can't believe the 3rd row are even worse!

My point was just about the second row, nothing to do with the third row.
Sure you could put the middle row seats right back, and have your feet out in front of you, but who wants to sit like that for any length of time? Rather like sitting in a MX5! Not what I want from a big tall SUV.
It is clear that some people think the seating is OK, but for me, it's a huge let down. And LR clearly can't think it is that good either, otherwise why does every other model they make have a higher rear seat base? The D5 is alone in their range with making you chose between either a MX5 seating position, or having your thighs unsupported.
Also compare to the XC90, X5, etc, and again the D5 is the lowest of all of them as well. Something is not right.

I said largest Forum, but a vocal , brand loyal community with knowledge and insight would surely have been worth engaging with, wouldn't it?New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Maybe one of the designers thought Posh Spice mentioned in the design brief was an Indian restaurant.
