DAB in the D4

I was just wondering how the new dab radios were holding up.

Is there a noticable difference Dab to fm in the car ??

Does RDs work just as well ?

Hows the reception ?

How many stations can you pick up in your area ?

Radio 4, Planet Rock and Classic (not FM!) are solid between Slough, Oxford and Northampton, based on last couple of days' driving (eclectic music tastes, me?!) Only "problem" is not all channels are available everywhere, so you do a scan in Oxford and it stores a list of stations including say XFM, you punch that button in Northampton and it says "no signal". Guess that's not really any different to FM local radio though! I don't miss the hiss of a marginal FM signal, and for the car, the quality's plenty good enough - but so are 128k MP3s instead of lossless rips, you're not necessarily talking audiophile here.

My 2p.

Sound quality is good, as Martin says not audiophile but very acceptable.

The national BBC multiplex seems to retune as you go up and down the country whereas some other stations need to be rescanned.

Can't comment on RDS but will have a fiddle about to see if it overrides on DAB.

Single biggest positive for me is that I can now listen to sport on Radio 5 Livei n complete clarity without the horrible pops, scratches and whistles of MW.

D4 XXV - Causeway
