Dare I cancel the warranty?

I am seriously thinking of ditching my Warranty Direct warranty.

This follows on from the service thread I posted, where I am getting quotes of £480 for a service.

I usually service my own cars, and rather stupidly, when I got this one I did the diffs etc as well as the usual engine stuff-I should have waited and had these done as a service, not when I got the car.
I also did the front suspension (pretty much all of it) the brakes all round and a wheel bearing.

I have been thinking the £66 a month for the warranty is a lot of cash anyway, but dare I cancel it?

I replied in the other thread. Warranty is insurance - up to you if you want it. I have it and have just about "broken even". Others are down, others are up - @DSL. That's a fairly dear service quote for an indi - is it an A or a B service and what year? Price around and see what you can get it down to.

I have a 2 year old D4 ,I put an amount of money away every month , so far I have 2 years worth put on one side, car has only covered 10,600 miles so in another 8 years will still be low milege if no big problems I will still have the cash, I dont use this fund for servicing . I have always done this and have never had to dip into it, always go's towards the next car ( So Far ) so good. All my other cars high milege. I´d sooner have the cash than give it to insurance companies on the off chance of problems.

Its a 2011 car at 84000 miles, so its a B service.

I was up big time for the D3 but for the D4 I haven't claimed a thing in the last 12 months since I bought her. I think of it as insurance for the major bills like the engine going bang or dreaded gearbox judder. I now just think of the warranty costs as part of running the car. I've got 2 years ExtraCare cover to go and can hopefully renew for another 2 (or possibly 3) years, that's up to when I'm thinking I'll be sell her on. I can afford to pay for any repairs, including a new engine if needed, but that's a risk I'd rather insure for. Thumbs Up

If you are able to afford every possible bill that the car will throw at you then, by all means, self insure. But, putting £66 a month away won't go very far if your crankshaft snaps (around 19 years' worth of £66 a month contributions!) Shocked

Probably a risk that's viable for the low mileage users only....

Not wishing to hijack the OP thread, but is there a decent lower cost warranty that covers a major calamity (i.e. if the total cost of a claim is only say >£5k or £10k??? i.e. it handles the extreme events, but not most of the usual warranty items?)

That's a very good question andy526rt. I am not worried except for the engine and gearbox!

That's WD SecureCare territory, but they're not going to put a new engine in a car worth less than half of that.
