Dashboard Symbol?
Hi all
Picked up my new 2007 ex demo on Friday and just had to get it just a little dirty today
In low range rock crawl and a symbol came up on the dash info display panel that looked like a solid axle with a diff in the centre.
Try as hard as I could it just does not appear in the manual Can anyone tell me what it means?
Thanks in advance.

It's to show you which way your front wheels are pointing

Maybe...But it did not look like that...more like a solid rear axle???? The wheels were certainly pointing ahead when I saw it and it was not there all the time. I think it was lower down on the display also.
Then again I may just have to go and get it dirty again to check
Thanks
Rob

heine is correct.
It lets you know that the front wheels are not in a straight line. If just off centre the symbol will not illuminate. Especially useful in mud and ruts.06 TDV6 SE with many LR and after-market extras. Used only on weekends and trips out west.

IIRC it does change in thickness when the wheels are pointing more forward

Now there is an interesting question...a rear diff lock
I asked the dealer if it had one and he said NO
However they have had the vehicle for nearly 9 months and changed sales people several times I believe.
Is there any other way of telling if a diff lock is fitted?
Well at least I can live in hope.Life is short...get it dirty...as often as you can.
TDV6 SE, ARB Bar, Warn 9000lb winch,Kamar rear bar/tyre carrier/jerry can holder, IBS duel battery system,Safari Snorkel, Black Widow draw system, Cargo Barrier, Lightforce 240XGT driving lights, Hemma GPS, Tyre Dog tyre monitor system, Mickey Thompson MTZ 265/70/17, Off Roving rock sliders, Hannibal Rooftop Tent, Open Sky awning.
A factory fitted diff lock will light up next to the low range symbol and only when it's engaged, you cannot make it happen as its done electronically via the computer. The only way to check that you physically have one is to get underneath and check the rear diff housing for an elongated nut protuding from the housing. It is very difficult to spot

You don't have to go to the stealers. If you put the d3 in offroad hight and leave the engine running (so it won't come down) you can look up from just in front off your right rear wheel above the diff and if you are lucky you might see this:

This is the outer end off this:

And this is the electric motor that operates the rear diff lock.
If you have the electric motor you have the rear diff lock , if not:

it will show when in low range and rock crawl and steering is turned. go try it in the driveway it should work.

I have not seen this on mine, the only symbol that shows the rear diff is locked that I have seen is in the 4x4 info display on the sat-nav screen.I'm not as good as I once was........but I'm as good once as I ever was.
Just checked mine and to the left of the low range symbol is the suspension check, and to the right of it is the hill decent control and lastly to the right is traction control, but no diff lock symbol I'm not as good as I once was........but I'm as good once as I ever was.
