Deafening screeching from EPB module!!!

I am assuming that the EPB module is knackered by the sound when trying to release the handbrake! The car wont move in either direction and when put in reverse I get the loud screeching from under the car, auto release I assume? the manual release does not seem to work when pulled! I do have a new set of EPB shoes and rear disc's plus while underneath I will replace the rubber boots on the air suspention too, but what I want to know is it worth getting the EPB module repair kit or an over priced new module????
I have also tried the unjamming with the IID tool and that didnt work either.

Yeah you have to give it a really hard pull to release the shoes as the cable goes all around before it gets there Thumbs Up

Thanks for the tip,I pulled that hard with the hook end from the jack handle as per manual, are you meant to feel it release or hear a click or something??? As the discs are solid and can't turn them to get at the wind back star on the adjusters, and yes I have removed pads and calipers just in case anyone mentions it! and its in"N" only done the o/s/r as its started to rain!!!!
DOH!!!! just realised the disc wont turn as only got the rear off the ground Censored Censored Big Cry Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Better go and find another pair of axle stands!!!

I do remember the first time I pulled the jack handle and thinking wow it can’t take much more to release it but it did if you get a chance to look how the cable runs you will understand why it takes so much of a pull of it does release you should be able to move the car a bit back or forth xx Thumbs Up

That might be a bit hard to move the car back and forth as its on axle stands at the rear! had to use brut force to get the disc off.Just as well I've got new discs pads and shoes with all new springs and fittings.
But so far no sign of jammed shoes or lining broken on the o/s/r, when it stops raining I do the n/s/r, I hope its not the actuator, but I have ordered a repair kit just in case.

Think you will still have to open up the EPB box so as you can reset the cogs not sure you can reset it if it has come apart which sounds like what has happened in your case quite supposed you got the disc off with hand brake on Thumbs Up

Me too, but I think the problem might be on the n/s disc, hoping the lining has come adrift from the shoe but I doubt it with my luck!! I wonder if the actuator will still screech with both cables detached from the shoes? if it does with no resistance from the shoes it could be the cables seized (just thinking out loud) or as first thought the actuator is knackered.
I have read that LR reckon the whole lot ie actuator and cables should be replaced after 50000 applications, as my car has done 151000 miles maybe thats why its doing what it is?

EDIT; now removed the n/s/r disc without any force! the disc moved enough to allow me to unwind the adjuster, so either the emergency release worked, but not on the o/s/r disc, there is movement on both cables in and out so not seized and the EPB module is still making the screeching noise when button pushed with no shoes attached. So will remove the module tomorrow and wait for the repair kit to arrive!!
If no joy with the replacement cogs its a new module and cables oh joy Mad unless anyone has got one going spare for a lot less than LR Wink Wink will wait and see what happens at the weekend.

You may just have to wind the module back as per the excellent thread on here detailing how to do it.
It does help if you have a stretchy neck and 3 arms and wee skinny fingers though

Just found Disco Micky"s thread on winding back the EPB module, if thats the one you mean? will give it a go as the cables are stuck tight in the back plates and I dont wont to damage them unless I have too. Also it looks like the shoe adjusters were partly siezed on one side and not the other, as most of the threads say lack of maintainance by previous owners!!!

^^^^^thats the one^^^^^

Ballache of a job getting the cover off, but you can save a fortune having a go at it yourself as no doubt a garage would just want to replace the module

Yes your not wrong and without the use of a ramp even more so, but its worth it to save the cost at the stealers!! Thumbs Up
