Dealer fit DVD doesn't work when the vehicle is cold
Anybody with the DVD fit experienced this ?
Recently, during the cold weather, the DVD doesn't work on the school run ! It only seems to happen when the temperature is below about 5 degrees. The colder it is, the longer it seems to take for the DVD to get going.
When selecting play on the DVD it does nothing, you just get the 'Land Rover' logo screen and the system appears not to be reading the disc, it just clunks away as if its trying to do something.
I thought it might be something to do with battery volts during a cold start but that seems to be constant according to the vehicle signals screen.
DVD works fine once the problem resolves itself.
Anybody found similar ?

Our DVD player used to do this on our boat and it was condensation on the lense which stopped it from reading the lense. Had to wait for it to warm up before it would work.
Not sure if this is the same as there is probably less humidity in a car.

Condensation on the laser \ disc is the most likely cause. Check your manual for the operating temperature and conditions recommended 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Martrum, do you keep your air-con on in the Winter months or shut it off? I keep mine on in the wet as it helps dry the air in your car, lowering the average humidity. Yes, it sounds counter-intuitive in winter (and yes, it burns more fuel), but it makes for less damp and misting when it gets really cold, and makes a big difference if you ever get into the car saturated with rain.Dr. Ian Malcolm:

I tend to keep the A/C on as you mentioned. The car seems to steam up far less. I'll make sure the disc is out of te DVD tonight and see if that makes a difference in the morning.

Is it a slot version or one which opens up so you can see the lense, I don't think I have ever seen the proper Land Rover one before.

I think Land Rover charge several £1000's for it but note the palyer is only £174. We're on our 4th one as the alpine roof leaked quite a lot and the water collected in the DVD player !
I hasten to add thats not part of the current problem as the dealer has at last sorted the leaks !

There is grease in most dvd players on some moving parts and when this gets cold its to stiff for the player to work so when your car warms up it works Iv had this with a lot things in the cold in cars even the ash try wont open when cold.
