Deep water, how deep can I get?? How deep have you driven??
I have a 06 se, my girlfriend and I live by a river with one road in and out, usually floods 3 times a year around 3-4 ft deep. Now my 2002 warrior used to it when 3ft deep buy not much electric on there externally to get wet. Just wondering from people with past exrerince, how deep in high suspension mode with out snorkle can I safely go ? I understand not to get it in the air intake lol but there is i depth gauge so an indication of height be great? also If go with snorkle option is there any other forms of water proofing needed under bonnet? and how deep with the snorkle canI safely get through??.
Also If you have taken your through water before i.e 3/4ft have you incurred any elec failure or problems as a result?? Any help be great thanks Das

There is no proper snorkel option for the D3.
What your looking at or refering to is the RAI or Raised Air Intake.
The air box through the engine bay to the wing, isn't 100% sealed BTW
Personally, I have had water coming over the bonnet and up the screen, for a few seconds and got away with it. AndrewS has had the car float down river (yes he had got a RAI). Others have had similar "fun".
The D3 is pretty water tight and robust - but that doesn't mean you can't break it. Do a search for VA on here and the RRS board, if you want an idea of what can go wrong.

Deep enough to have it partially floating!!! Anyone have a link to The Red Pearl making like a log in a log flume vid??
Is this the sort of thing you have in mind?

I had my previous D3 in the "puddle" at the bottom of Tong when it had been very wet and it went in fine, going steady to keep up a bow wave I found the front dipped sufficiently for water to come up the bonnet.
Here's a picture stolen from the galleries of the pond, possible not quite as deep as it was.
As I hit a slightly deep hole the thing started to float (lost traction, lots of wheel spin, traction control doing its stuff), it was in high suspension and it did its extended mode (or whatever it does), gripped and we pulled through ok.
What would worry me would be doing this in anything with a current.
I have been through the Tong puddle loads of times in my old Tdi 110 and it sailed through fine with water pi ing in through the floor and doors and it stayed on the bottom gripping firmly all the way.
The D3's water proof nature means it is buoyant-ish (at least for a while) and in a river I reckon by the time the suspension gripped and you realised what happened there'd be a risk of you being swept away.
If the water is still flood water then I would reckon if you can get a bow wave and not stop then anything that you can keep consistently infront of you rather than flowing over the bonnet would be ok.
Of course, you take your chances - this is just my experience.
In terms of what damage to electrics - never had an issue but expect the Electrionic Parking Brake (EPB) to be screaming its nuts off a few days later and need an adjustment.
Alternatively, next time it floods put a call out here and there will be loads of folks wanting to come and have a play no doubt
Cheers

As long as you keep moving and keep a decent bow wave you can way exceed the 700mm limit.
I think the deepest Ive been in is 1100mm. The postion of the intake is perfect to sit right in the trough of the bow wave. You could do it without a snorkel or RAI but obviously increaees the risk if you have to slow down.
I have an RAI and not had any problems (so far !!)

Live on the ouse between uckfield and lewes
best route is from piltdown pond near uckield east sussex via back lanes to barcombe which is about 3ft deep and then can go through the main barcome to ringmer road which some times gets 3-4ft deep causing road closure many local farmers from local college turn up in defenders 90's in there masses to play always great fun. Think safari snorkle be way to go really.
