Definition of bi-xenon lights?

Hi,

Just a question: in the specs of the D3 headlamps are described as bi-xenon which for my understanding means that both beams come from the 'xenon' source. Also in the manual, bulb replacement for high and dipped beam is described by the same bulb i.e. D2S (xenon).

In practice my headlamps have Xenon bulb for low beam and 'standard' H7 for main beam. Is this correct or are there different models of headlamps for Disco3 available?

On the HSE if you flash your headlights without your lights on just the standard halogen lamps work. If however youâ€™re HIDs are on then the HID lamp also changes from low to high beam (by altering the beam rather than intensity)

To quote Glossary on Land Rover website (see www.landrover.com/gb/en/_glossary/bi_xenon.htm )

"Bi-xenon headlamps use a single xenon lamp to produce both the high beam and the low beam. The full light output is used to produce the high beam, while the low beam is formed by moving a shutter between the bulb and the lens, thus blocking off a portion of the light"

I read that also. But when the high beam is on so is the halogen. Any one know why we need Halogen High beam?

The Reason for the halogen lights is partially for the above. HID Lights take a long time to 'warm up' which would render the passing lights function (as it is named here) useless.

In case of my headlamps, when main beam is on, halogens work, but xenon beam remains unchanged - so they still produce low beam (checked by covering halogens) - weird.

I noticed the same. I believe the High beams should change the angle of HIDs. I did not notice this. I guess the only way to know for sure is disconnect the Halogens and see if the angle of the HIDs change.
