Definitive list of Discovery 4 failures |
|
So, it's back at the dealers. After only 10 months of owning my second hand MY14 it is making its third trip back to the dealership- this time for a red warning triangle warning and an engine error which showed up on my IID as a MAF fault. I checked the easy items (MAF sensors and cleaned MAP) but it's not that so I suspect cracked inlet manifolds.
This new failure set me thinking- is there a list of common faults/failures for the D4? Clearly, many individual problems are listed on many separate posts in the forum but is there a list of known faults? If there is, is there a corresponding maintenance checklist to prevent or diagnose the fault along with part numbers for the repairs?
If there isn't- perhaps we could/should create one. What do you think?

Good idea.
Suggest a definitive list in the Wiki, without narrative. Narrative if necessary should, I suggest, be in a separate thread, so that the list is a simple place from which to start a search of the forum.

^^ +1 !
agree avoid narrative. there are so many good fixes on here that seem to require reading 20+ pages to find the correct/complete info that I think sometimes they are missed. which spawns a second thread on same subject.

Difficult to get it right as JLR don't make Alternators or Compressors for instance - so is it JLR's fault when they fit faulty components?? .

They may not make a lot of the components, but they do specify them. When failures become apparent, they change the spec, eg different manufacturer for later compressors.
I think the OP was thinking of a useful reference list for checking/diagnosing common faults rather than finger pointing.
