Pretty sure I’ve read something about this on here (or perhaps on Pistonheads) being common / they all do that - a short (1 sec or so) delay between applying throttle and getting a shift on. Saw something on another thread about a park brake switch.
Check that you're not catching the brake pedal with your foot..

Yes sir, they all seem to do that and I expect if you search you'll see some ancient threads on the subject of D4s acceleration lag and the things people have done to get around it (remapping and the like). Generally it isn't a problem in that you learn to anticipate it and once used to it, to all intents and purposes it disappears.
Except now and again, when you pull out into traffic and want to accelerate sharply from standing still. You get one of those "omigod it's died on me I'm done for" moments before things kick in and you shoot off.

If I want to be sharpish out of a junction (MY2013 D4) I either select Sport or flappy paddle shift to down to 1st gear (I think I am right in saying in normal drive the D4 pulls off in 2nd)?

I tried sand mode today - it certainly takes off faster. What's the advantage in sand?

Turbo lag? It’s got twin sequential turbos! There isn’t any turbo lag.
It’s been noted before some seem to have an issue with it. Mine is instant, except if I ever catch the brake pedal, then there is a noticeable delay.

Just adding an experience here for anyone searching on the topic. My Dad has a 2012 3.0 RRS and has the same issue. Pulling away from junctions there was a notable pause after pressing the accelerator before anything happened. Now, let’s be honest it was never a sports car and there was always a delay but it was much worse. To the point that it was getting a bit dangerous to drive.
After probably 18 months of this happening the car finally wouldn’t start on him one day so I got it towed for him. Turns out it was a very slight oil leak from the back of the engine onto the crankshaft. The garage said they had recently done the same thing on a Discovery 4.
Hope this helps someone.

I have the same issue on a 2012 HSE 60k miles - looks like there is a software update that can be applied by the dealer that resolves:
