Desert Trips

Is a DIII suitable for desert trips?
Will the electronics hold the sand and temperatures?

Are you asking in theory or practice. In theory of course, in practice, unless you have some good backup I would think twice or at least use your equipment that you have on your web site and take it along.

then under Iltis

Problem is, the iltis is not capable of carrying the roof tent Wink

So if I get this right, I'll have to sell the DIII and buy a 110/130 by the time I plan my desert trips?

I guess the upcoming G4 will reveil much of the problems in REAL use of the DIII.

Did a LR Experience last week and they said that all the mud gets into the sensors thus loads of different warning lights will keep coming on.

I'd imagine the sand could bring up similar problems.

OK just ignore the warnings, till something really goes wrong Surprised

At the Experience all the electronics gave up. The instructor was very apologetic but I thought that it was good to handle the car and see what it could do without electronic aids.

The Hi/Lo ratio switch still worked but who knows what you are supposed to do if that fails though.

Don't get me wrong, we love the car but I just wish that they had made it without the terrain response thingy, electronic park brake and Hi/Lo ratio switch. It might have been cheaper.

Did the 5 seater have permanently raised suspension?

Did ponder it as it was the cheapest but we needed 7 seats.

Vinces trips are not serious desert, Penguin (why the heck does a Penguin want to go to the desert) do you mean serious as in days over the desert or just skirting the edge.

Been there years ago, maybe again soon as they are becoming more friendly to see the monuments. I personally would think twice about that sort of expedition until the G4 series of challenges has been run, then we will see what happens to the cars in the adverse areas.
