detachable tow ball installation |
|
Am I doing something wrong? Trying to install a detachable tow ball, but can't get it to click into place...
Is it just more brute force or is there a knack?
I'm pulling the green lever towards me and pushing up, but it just doesn't click. I haven't removed the bumper panel that covers the electrical sockets - does that matter?
Help please!
Thank you 2010 D4 HSE

Despite the weight, this item is a precision fit. Use the key to "unlock" the green knob which you pull out and turn as indicated. This should wind the locking pin fully in and cause a small trigger pin to protrude. When you fit the towbar into the socket, once the trigger pin is pushed back the locking pin is sprung into place.
There are two wear pads on each side of the tongue you insert into the socket. Even the slightest burr on one of them will stop the tongue going in far enough for the trigger pin to depress. Fine sandpaper or a pattern makers file will smooth the burr. Don't bash it into place if you want to get an MOT in future. A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill.
