Detachable tow bar help

Hi. I have a detachable tow bar for my 65 plate HSE Lux.... only used it once or twice. I've tried to fit it this morning, but can't as the "open' or unlock position to attach it still has the pin coming out - see photo... It looks like something in the mechanism has slipped so the pin is either out (unlocked) or really out (locked)

any ideas? Can this be fixed, or do I need to get a new tow bar?

No picture attached.
If it is the big pin out at the back you have to insert the key and turn the handle to reset it, if you want to remove the key without the bar inserted tap the smaller pin which from memory is located on the front. This will release and deploy the big pin on the back

Remember to pull the green handle ‘outwards’ before rotating it, which should retract the large pin.

so... I watched the following video

&t=1052s

there was an issue with my tow bar, so I decided to try to strip it down (easy), but now need to put it back (not so easy - I don't have the right kit or tools - its a fiddly job!)

So, I need some help. Does anyone know where I can get this renovated? I have all the parts, I just need them putting back together - I have a Round Table Christmas sleigh to tow in about 4 weeks, so anyone who can point me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Hi,
sadly not near to help you but

from memory No special tools required just a vice to hold it in maybe,
as you say "fiddley" have you still got the ball bearing that goes "ping" Question

Thats the fiddly bit to put back.

I decided to rebuild mine while sat in the car at lunch time a couple of years ago.. needless to say I experienced the ping.. it went down the vents into my windscreen demister (Freelander 2), Luckily, I had a small magnet like a doughnut, I tied to a piece of string and fished for the bearing, found it first time, very lucky!!

The getting it set up correctly isn't easy, it took me a few goes, I cant remember the exact process, but I think you need to build it basically in the open (unlocked) position, which of course has the spring pressure against it. I could be wrong, it was a while ago..

Yes - that ball bearing is a little b*gger.... I was trying to fix it in my kitchen; no bench vice, and off it pinged bouncing on the tile floor

I do have everything, but currently in a plastic bag!!! A friend of mine has offered some help so I shall try it. Otherwise I’ll be getting a new tow bar off eBay, and selling a practically unused, deconstructed one!!!
