| Dieselpump ruins injectors |
|
Since a few day's my Disco 3 is starting to smoke, i mean serious smoke, when it runs stationary for a few minutes.
Diagnoses of the garage: Broken fuelpump which develops metal parts who are not filtered by the fuelfilter and therefore cause damage to the fuelinjectors.
Repaircost 5000€ is this a correct diagnose and fair price?

€ 5000 sounds quiet a lot. Did they tell you what exactly they are replacing?
I have no idea what a fuelpump costs. If you buy injectors from Nick aka TheLargeOne you pay about 170 pounds each. In Holland/Belgium they should be €238.00. Labour should be around € 320.00 for replacing the injectors.
Totalling € 1750 ex vat for replacing all injectors leaving roughly €3000 incl. vat for exchanging the fuel pump.
Seems like a lot but I have no clue for the cost of a fuel pump.
Are they sure the injectors are damaged?? There are specialized companies who clean dirty injectors and test them. Costs about € 175 for all 6.

There was a recall for the fuel pumps in the Euro IV engine. Did you have yours replaced? Should be covered by LR if within VIN range. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

5k sounds like they are replacing the entire fuel system. In their defence though, once the HPFP starts breaking up, there is no way you can get all the metal out of the fuel system My D3 Build Thread
