Differences between 2.7 and 3.0 cylinder block |
|
Hello , who can help?
Has the 3.0 engine a larger bore or a larger stroke or both.
Maybe the cylinder block and heads are equal?

You can replace it as a basic engine (smallblock & heads) with the ancillaries of the 2.7 and run it..
But why should you? Find a low milage 2,7l jag engine and change the ancillaries and its the same amount if work.... both crankshafts have their pro’s and cons...
2.7 bearing spin, 3.0 can break..... if to choose from to bad scenarios, i prefer bearing spin...
Jag engines can be found with less than 100K in kilometers, atleast i did when needed.. Best regards

I will change my engine in the near future . But I will not pay 2000 or 3000€ for a second hand engine without knowing if it is a good engine. So I will overhaul an engine by myself . So I will look for a cheap second hand unit and someone here in germany has offered me a complete 3.0 engine with all parts for 600€.

Seems almost to good to be true.... for a good engine...
if it is a good one, jump in your motor and get it asap..
keep in mind, you can use nothing from this engine apart from the basic lump.. Best regards

...no, this engine is defective. I think broken crabkshaft. But I would have a cylinder block and the heads then.
With these parts I could make ready an engine for a fast swap.

With a broken crankshaft 90% chance on a warped cilinderblock i am afraid..
It is very “thin” there and the force is massive if a crankshaft breaks down..
I do not see the profit to be honest... Cil heads can Be bought cheaper..
i keep recommending aan low milage JAG engine and refurbish that one, partially ...cil heads rarely needing attention, when the milage is low... new bearings (big-end and mains) new pistonrings Etc. And there you go..
JAG engines can be trusted On milage if bought from a decent Breaker..
I did it that way atleast... relatively low cost, and Runs perfectly smooth now... and i mean really smooth.... Best regards

when I look e.g. at eBay in Germany only seldom you can find a Jag engine.
Most time I find second hand Land Rover or Range Rover engines for about 2.500€ to 3.500€
https://www.ebay.de/itm/Motor-2-7-JAGUAR-S...SwlptaF1dB
This is an actual option. Not cheap and they want my old engine in return. And I know nothing about the seller. Don`t know if the 41.000km are reality.
Do you have a breaker in the UK who is a trusting seller?

Look in the UK. Loads of them... Between 1200 and 1700 quid.. with warranty, for what it is worth..
Select UK as country before you do a ebay search..
Just one example..
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124195281216
Or cheaper
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/373059642520
Although i see no mileage mentioned, you can ask..
Between 50 and 200 quid you have them home delivered in germany. i saw earlyer... When i was looking for one..
Regarding milage... not every one outside germany is a lair . A lot of the breakers are thrustworthy you know.. not all, but a lot are.. ask around, look at reviews..
Usually JAG engines had an easyer life than the LR ones.... about 1000 kg per km easyer Best regards

If you buy the complete car, you can do an mot mileage check for free on the gov.uk website, not totally fool proof, but as not many jags used as taxis it will be pretty reliable.

TBH , seems buying a complete car in the UK as a non UK citizen not the best idea at this moment.
Transport Of a complete car will be expensive or far more expensive than an engine only.
Driving it to the mainland is with the UK quarantine plans For travelers Comming in from 1 june one, also not an option, and the extra work....time....
An engine only will be deliverd at your doorstep.. easy peasy... Best regards

The crankcase breather on the 2 blocks is in different places. Not interchangeable. On the outside they are physically the same. 3.0 has bigger bore.

Yes, you're right. This is the better idea. I will look at ebay in the next weeks and when I find a good cheap one I will ask my wive for money.

....I have found a nice Jag 2.7 engine with spinned conrod bearing at cylinder No. One.
Milage should be 142.537km
The camshafts all have light pittings on some cams. But I have only paid 400€ here in Germany.
Can someone help me with wear limits of the cylinder bores?
