differential oil change

At what mileage should the front and rear (not elec. locking) differential oil being changed?

Dealer is advising to change with 75k miles.

Is it really necessary to do this, as it is not mentioned in the service schedule / maintenance sheets?

please advice.

I just did mine at 75000km (47000miles). Rear oil looked fine and clear, the front was black and with quite a lot of metal swarf on the drain plug. It's very simple to do (good descriptions on the forum), so I'd also say do it earlier than 75k miles.

Hi

my independent dealer wants to use 75W-90 premium synthetic oil, for the differentials, with the following specification. would that be OK?

API: GL-3/4/5
Scania STO 1:0
MB 235.11
Volvo 97312
VW/Audi G-052-145/052-911
ZF TE-ML 01, 02B, 05B, 07A, 08
ZF TE-ML 12B, 16F, 17B
MAN N 3343SL

But in another post from someone else, the XO oil has 'special additives' which are needed.....

I don't have any problem getting the XO oil here, but would use the API GL5 stuff if I couldn't. I'd probably just change it more regularly if I wasn't 100% sure it was the same 'additives' as XO.
