credit, whats that? If yer cant pay for it with cash, no point buying it, hence buying ex-highways, only going to run it "long time" on the miles, no point loosing over 45% of a new vehicles value in the first 12 months coz its done 100k!!
Best buy ex-highways, run it till the warranty runs out then buy another ex-highways till the end of its warranty, who knows might get me d4 yet

Bet yer bottom dollar that HA will have a few out their as "test vehicles" by the end of July, well before the public launch, although I recon the "police" spec will have to be greater than the GS model which still keeps the 2.7TDV6, also recon that LR are fighting off the Germans who are due to launch a police spec X5 with a higher payload specifically targeted to HA.

Character,
Would be grateful if you could keep the forum informed if you hear further info on this adapter for digital tachograph compatibility. We have been looking to update our vehicle for something with 3,500kg towing capacity with decent ride quality etc...but as yet nothing compatible post 1st May 06 vehicle manufactured date.
Looking at the D4 commercial spec, think I would rather get a late 09reg D3 commercial (subject to this adapter being suitable / available as a retrofit)- savings to be made!!
Also, D4 commercial seems to have same 2.7 TDV6 engine and gearbox so a bit of a disappointment- no performance gain.
Many thanks

jhunty, spoke to the head man at UDO late friday afternoon, yep its all coming, EU have added/amended existing legislation to include a feed directly from the speedo rather than the gearbox, this is happening, adaptions available thru approved tacho service centres from late july/early august. Would look at buying an 08 plater Commercial as value would have eased back another 2-3k on an 09 plate (if you can find one as they stopped building them a few months ago).

and double just had this arrive in my mail from LR
"Dear Mr James,
Natasha in our press office has asked me to reply to you with respect to your comments about digital tachographs, specifically with regard to the issue of model year applicability.
The new system, as recently approved by the European Commission, allows us to use an electronic road speed signal from the vehicle's electronic control module, rather than the transmission-sensed system initially specified for digital tachographs.
Whilst you are correct about the engine and gearbox for the 2.7 carrying over, it is changes that will be made to the electrical architecture of all vehicles at 10MY which enable this system to be applied. It will not be possible to 'retro-fit' these architecture changes to earlier vehicles.
I take your point about the time this process has taken, but it has involved a legislative change by the European Commission, which has been the subject of some considerable debate. Unfortunately, we had to wait until this was resolved before we could come up with a technical solution, hence the consequent delay to availability of parts. We are, however, expecting to have them available for when Discovery 4 goes on sale in September.
Thank you again for your interest in our products "

umm reason to be a bit more optimistic
"Dear Mathew,
I have done a bit more digging and my contact has spoken to Jason. Apparantly they are only currently working on the 10MY solution, using the road speed source we have recommended.
He has said that, now they have developed the adaptor, they will look at pre 10MY vehicles to see whether they can get the data they require from a different source. Our people will help them in this by providing circuit diagramms etc.
This does mean that, if they are succesful, it will not be a source we have validated, but apparantly this would be business as usual for them, as they do not tend to seek validation for retro-fit applications.
Having said that, if they are succesful, I am sure we will look into the implications of doing the validation work.
Regards"

Don't you just know that means it will invalidate any warranty unless you pay a stealer £k's to do the retro-fit I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.
