direct (?) comparison MPG - manual to auto
Just for info really
My TDV6 S manual has been in the stealer for a couple of days, and I got the same car, but auto as the courtesy car, so had the chance to do the same journey from Brum down to Camberly with an auto. For this trip, I quite often just trundle down the M40, M25, M3 (70mph in sixth), cruise engeaged as much as possible, and regularly get just above 30 (30.5) mpg. Did the same thing yesterday with the auto, and got 27.2mpg. Thought that was quite reasonable for 2.5tons of auto.

Gone - MY18 D5 HSE - Corris on 22's with Black Pack
Now gone - MY16 D4 SE Tech, Loire Blue, Almond Leather, Privacy, plus some other goodies.
Old - MY12 D4 SDV6 XS Auto - Ipanema Sand with Almond Leather - Plus other niceties, and D4.com sticker
Older - D3 TDV6 XS Auto - Lugano Teal with Almond Leather, 20" Stormers, Shiny Tailpipes, DVD/TV - and obligatory D3 sticker
Ancient - D3 TDV6 S - Tonga with Ebony, 20" Stormers, satnav & DVD
My auto returns about 30mpg at those speeds which I think is great!Back in the game!

Al, I think your figures are pretty much what they quote in the brochures. So can't be too bad, especially I guess on a new tight engine as well.Bodsys Brake Bible

I am getting a “displayed†30.0-mpg with the new 2007 HSE, over its first 830 miles, but it's telling “porkiesâ€.
It's actually only achieving a true 26.89-mpg; calculated from the litres purchased and miles covered.
This anomaly between the “displayed†and true mpg I am seeing with the 2007 model was not apparent with the 2005 HSE, that’s readout was sensibly correct.
I will have to re-zero to do another check.
Looking at the true figure I’m a touch disappointed, as I’m being gentle on accelerating whilst “running in".

First 1000 miles on my new HSE TD6 auto (MY07) and averaging 26 mpg, driving so as to keep up with normal traffic, 70 to 80 on M-ways and occasional bouts of planted right foot to (well-attempt to!) overtake.
Lack of power and the bulk/weight of the thing makes me drive it much slower than nature intended anyway (but then I also have a Porsche!!!)
The fuel consumption is not quite what I expected but I'll live with it. perhaps it will improve as it loosens up.

546 miles on clock. TDV6 "07" manual. Journey Wantage to Portsmouth to Wantage 144 miles of Motorway, A road, urban and country lanes. Computer said 33.7 ave mpg. Kept to speed limits more or less and cruise control on A34. Didn't go over 3000RPM as still running in and no foot to floor but kept up with flow. Tried keeping to about 2000 rpm when driving at a constant speed whatever gear that happened to be. Don't know how accurate the computer is yet as haven't done mileage against actual fuel used but suspect is optimistic. If this is right then . Now I am out of running in, my right foot feels heavier already.

That make me feel a little less alone! Averaging 25.4 on my car & 23.5 (both actual rather than trip) on Mrs DSL's. Still, getting 50.9 from the Aygo but it's just not the same!
Average about 26mpg with my normal 23 mile commute to work (22 miles back coz I take a different route!) - mixture of A, B roads and motorway. Over 30mpg easily achievable on a longer runThe End

I reset my trip after filling up on the M40 today and have been to Bracknell and back (to Peak District).
I was driving very slowly (50-60) on the motorway and the trip was showing 34.8 max.
Getting off the motorway at Chestefield and driving over the hills dropped the mpg (on the trip) to 34.4.
At one point I had a combined range+trip of 670 miles.
The car is a an XS Auto TDV6.
I have previously checked the actual mpg (brim-to-brim) and it was showing approx 28mpg when the trip was showing ~30.5mpg. So there seems to be a 2mpg difference between the computer and actual.
cheers

Drove from Bromley to Carmarthen this week and at a steady 70 all the way the computer registered 28.8 mph. This was great as I usually manage 18 on my usual trips in heavy traffic. I had hoped to get 30 though. At what speed do you get optimum mph?
